AUSSIES IN ACTION – DAY 9
Para Cycling
- Lauren Parker has become the first Australian in 48 years – and only the third of all time – to win Gold Medals in two sports at the same Paralympic Games.
The Triathlon Gold medallist went within seconds of achieving the feat in the Individual Time Trial, but blew away her rivals just a day later in the Women’s H1-4 Road Race to win by over four minutes.
Para Athletics
- Vanessa Low has taken Paralympic Gold for the third Games in a row, taking out the Women’s T63 Long Jump by nearly 40cm. Along the way, Low extended her own T61 World Record by 12cm.
She was able to celebrate with fellow Paralympic Gold Medal-winning husband Scott Reardon and two-year-old son Matteo.
Para Swimming
- After breaking his own World Record at the Paralympic Trials earlier this year, Tim Hodge went into the Men’s SM9 Individual Medley as the hot favourite.
The only people disappointed with his Paralympic Record on the way to upgrading Tokyo Silver to Paris Gold were the home fans, with Hodge beating home two Frenchman for the minor medals. - Jenna Jones set a new Oceania Record in the Women’s S9 100m Breaststroke on her way to fifth place, while Lakeisha Patterson was sixth in the Women’s S9 200m Individual Medley.
Para Table Tennis
- Samuel von Einem has won Bronze in the Men’s MS11 Singles after going down in his semi-final. It is the third-straight Paralympics that von Einem has come away with a medal.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS – DAY 8
Wheelchair Tennis
- Japanese pair Yui Kamiji and Manami Tanaka came from behind to beat the Netherlands’ Diede de Groot and Aniek van Koot in the Women’s Doubles at Roland-Garros. It is Japan’s first Gold medal in the sport, and the first time Netherlands have lost the Women’s Doubles since it was introduced in 1992.
Para Cycling
- Despite the rain, France’s Florian Jouanny gave the home crowd something to cheer by defending his Paralympic Gold medal in the Men’s H1-2 Road Race, at Clichy-sous-Bois.
Goalball
- Goalball greats Sevda Altunoluk and Fatma Gul Guler scored four goals each to lead Türkiye to the top of the podium, defeating Israel 8-3 for a third-straight Gold medal.
