AUSSIES IN ACTION – DAY 8
Para Swimming
- Alexa Leary broke the Women’s S9 100m Freestyle World Record in the heats before lowering the mark again in the Final to take her first individual Paralympic Gold medal. The win comes two days after she anchored the Mixed Medley Relay to Gold with one of the standout performances of the Games.
Leary’s Relay teammate Emily Beecroft finished fourth.
- Ricky Betar set a new Oceania Record en route to Bronze in the Men’s SM14 200m Individual Medley, his first individual Paralympic medal.
- Grant ‘Scooter’ Patterson was back on the podium for the second time in Paris with Bronze in the Men’s SB2 50m Breaststroke.
Para Table Tennis
- Having already tasted victory in Doubles earlier in the week, Qian Yang became the first Australian to win two Gold medals at Paris 2024, defeating Poland’s Natalia Partyka 3-0 to defend her Women’s WS10 title. She has now medalled in Singles at the last four Games, originally competing for China in London and Rio.
Para Cycling
- Triathlon Gold medallist Lauren Parker has once again made it on to the Paris podium, finishing second in the Women’s H1-3 Individual Time Trial. She becomes the first Australian in 44 years to win medals in two different sports at the same Games.
- Meg Lemon took Bronze in the Women’s C4 Individual Time Trial in Tokyo, went one better in Paris to take the Silver medal. Individual Pursuit Gold medallist Emily Petricola finished fourth.
- Alaistair Donohoe claimed Silver in the Men’s C5 Individual Time Trial, adding to the Silver and Bronze medals he has picked up in this event in Rio and Tokyo.
- In the Men’s C2 Individual Time Trial featured the same three cyclists on the podium as the last Games, however Tokyo Gold medallist Darren Hicks swapped positions with his French rival, taking Bronze today in Paris.
- Alana Forster finished third in the Women’s C5 Individual Time Trial; Team GB’s Sarah Storey won Gold in the event for the fourth straight Games.

- Dan Michel and Jamieson Leeson‘s BC3 Pairs medal hopes were dashed in the quarter-finals, falling to Korea.
INTERNATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS – DAY 7
Para Swimming
- America’s Jess Long is already an all-time great, but she added to her incredible record with victory in the Women’s S8 400m Freestyle Final, her 14th career Paralympic Gold medal.
- Ukraine’s Andril Trusov became the first S7 swimmer to go under 27 seconds in the 50m Freestyle, smashing his own World Record by nearly seven tenths of a second.
Para Cycling
- Team GB’s Fran Brown was knocked off her bike three days ago, suffering a dislocated shoulder which drastically threatened her Games campaign. Today she won Silver in the Women’s C1-3 Individual Time Trial – an remarkable recovery.
Powerlifting
- Jordan’s Omar Sami Hamden Qarada won the first Para powerlifting Gold of the Games with a lift of 181kg clinching victory in the Men’s -49kg final.
