The Breakers: Channel 7 AFL reporters launch new LiSTNR podcast – Mitch Cleary, Xander McGuire and Tom Morris are taking AFL fans behind the headlines in The Breakers, a new six-episode podcast series from LiSTNR and the Seven Network.
Launching Wednesday 9 September, the series sits in the 7AFL podcast feed and unpacks how the game’s biggest stories are verified, sourced and broken.
The Breakers arrives as the AFL news cycle accelerates through the finals series, Grand Final week and the trade period. By putting three prominent Channel 7 reporters together in a regular audio format, the launch gives viewers a different way to follow the reporting and media competition that shapes football coverage beyond match day.
Inside the AFL news cycle
Cleary, McGuire and Morris will discuss the calls, decisions and pressures behind major AFL stories, as well as the personalities and competition in the football media landscape.
Cleary is 7NEWS’ chief football reporter and a regular guest on The Rush Hour with JB & Billy. McGuire appears across Channel 7 AFL and 7NEWS coverage, and also features on Triple M’s Mick in the Morning and hosts 105.1 Triple M Melbourne’s Deadset Legends. Morris brings experience across AFL journalism and is also 7NEWS’ chief cricket reporter.
The podcast joins The Agenda Setters, exclusive interviews and segments including Roaming Brian on LiSTNR’s 7AFL feed.
Southern Cross Media Group Director of Sport – TV, Audio and Streaming Chris Jones said the show would give fans an inside view of the craft of breaking and reporting AFL stories.
The Breakers is available weekly from 9 September through the 7AFL podcast feed on LiSTNR.
