MUBI and Madman Entertainment announce theatrical partnership – MUBI and Madman Entertainment have announced a continued distribution partnership for Australia and New Zealand.
The partnership will see Madman sub-distribute key MUBI titles in cinemas across the region. As a result, several major festival films will reach Australian and New Zealand audiences.
First on the slate is Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. The film is the Cannes breakout hit and Queer Palm winner from writer and director Jane Schoenbrun.
Madman will release the film in Australian cinemas from August 6. Then, New Zealand audiences will see it from August 20.
Schoenbrun is known for I Saw the TV Glow and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair. For her latest film, she leads a major cast that includes Emmy-winning Hacks star Hannah Einbinder.
The cast also includes Gillian Anderson, known for The X-Files, Sex Education and Scoop. Also appearing are Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman and Patrick Fischler.
In addition, the film features Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kevin McDonald, Quintessa Swindell and Jack Haven. Plan B produces the film.
A major festival slate heads to cinemas
Following Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Madman will release several acclaimed MUBI titles in Australia and New Zealand.
The line-up includes Fatherland, from acclaimed filmmaker Paweł Pawlikowski. He won the Cannes Best Director prize for the film.
Pawlikowski is best known for Ida and Cold War. He wrote Fatherland with Henk Handloegten.
The film stars Sandra Hüller, Hanns Zischler, August Diehl, Devid Striesow and Anna Madeley.
Meanwhile, Madman will also release Coward, the Cannes competition title from Close filmmaker Lukas Dhont.
The First World War drama explores queer love during the horrors of war. At Cannes, Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne won the Best Actor prize for their performances.
Rosebush Pruning and Rose join the partnership
In addition, the partnership includes Rosebush Pruning, the latest feature from Karim Aïnouz.
The film brings together Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage and Elena Anaya. It also stars Tracy Letts, Elle Fanning and Pamela Anderson.
The story focuses on a wealthy family shaped by privilege, desire and long-buried secrets. Therefore, it joins the slate as one of the year’s more provocative festival titles.
Sandra Hüller also stars in Rose, the Berlinale Competition title from director Markus Schleinzer.
Set in the early 17th century, Rose follows a mysterious soldier who arrives in a secluded Protestant village. The soldier, a woman disguised as a man, claims to be heir to an abandoned farmstead.
Hüller won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Actress at Berlinale for her performance.
Together, the titles mark a strong theatrical slate for MUBI and Madman Entertainment. They also give local cinema audiences access to major international festival films.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma opens in Australian cinemas from August 6. It then opens in New Zealand cinemas from August 20 through Madman Entertainment.
