The film stars Fred Hechinger, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Caitriona Balfe, Kit Connor and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai.
For Australian cinema audiences, the release puts another major auteur title on the radar. MUBI says an Australian cinema release date is still to be announced.
Festival screenings
A Long Winter will screen later this autumn at the New York Film Festival. That screening will be its New York premiere.
The film will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it will have its Canadian premiere.
About the film
The story is set in the mountains as autumn draws to a close. A family prepares for the long winter ahead.
Haigh adapted A Long Winter from Colm Toibin’s short story of the same name.
The film also stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, David Furr and Martin Freeman.
It was shot on location in Alberta, Canada. The creative team includes cinematographer Andre Turpin, production designer Emmanuel Frechette and editor Jonathan Alberts.

Haigh’s previous films include All of Us Strangers, Lean on Pete, 45 Years and Weekend. He also served as executive producer and lead writer-director on the HBO series Looking.
