WERWULF trailer reveals Robert Eggers’ new nightmare – Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for WERWULF, the new horror film from acclaimed filmmaker Robert Eggers.
The WERWULF trailer teases a brutal and unsettling new vision from Eggers, whose work has become synonymous with atmosphere, dread and historical horror.
Do not dread the darkness. Embrace it.
Directed by Robert Eggers, WERWULF is described as his most visceral and haunting experience yet. Focus Features presents the film as a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within.
The film is written by Robert Eggers and Sjón. The pair previously collaborated on The Northman, with Eggers once again turning to a dark, folkloric world filled with fear, faith and violence.
WERWULF stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe and Lily-Rose Depp.
Taylor-Johnson leads the cast in what promises to be another intense and physically charged performance. Dafoe also reunites with Eggers after earlier collaborations, while Depp returns to the filmmaker’s world following Nosferatu.
The new trailer gives audiences their first official look at the film’s bleak mood and ominous tone. It also positions WERWULF as one of the major horror releases to watch heading into the new year.
Producers on the film are Robert Eggers, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Garrett Bird and Sjón. Executive producers are Chris Columbus, Eleanor Columbus and Bernard Bellew.
Eggers has built a reputation for creating films that feel immersive, unsettling and carefully crafted. From The Witch and The Lighthouse to The Northman and Nosferatu, his work often explores obsession, isolation and the supernatural.
With WERWULF, he now turns his attention to a new tale of terror. The result appears to be another stark and atmospheric cinema experience, led by a cast that brings together some of his most compelling collaborators.
WERWULF opens only in cinemas January 1.
