Speaking on The Agenda Setters Rugby League on Channel 7 and 7plus, Holbrook said Newcastle would wait for the process to unfold. However, he made clear how important Crossland has been to the team throughout the season.
The discussion put Newcastle’s latest setback into the wider story of a campaign shaped by adversity. Crossland’s possible absence would remove the club’s Player of the Year at a crucial point, but Holbrook said the Knights had repeatedly found ways to respond.

David Riccio asked how Newcastle would prepare for the potential loss of Crossland, who was referred directly to the judiciary after being sent off.
Holbrook described the player as an essential part of Newcastle’s identity.
“He got our Player of the Year award, and I love everything that he does. He typifies our style of play, the region that he represents.”
While he did not speculate about the judiciary outcome, Holbrook acknowledged the impact it could have on the Knights.
“Not a great situation for Phoenix or our team. But as you mentioned, mate, we’ve dealt with that all year, so we’ll deal with it again this week, whichever way it pans out, and we’ll get on with it.”
Knights respond after Crossland’s send-off
Aaron Woods then turned the conversation to Newcastle’s performance after Crossland left the field. The Knights had to play with 12 men for roughly 45 minutes against a Penrith team Holbrook’s side knew could punish any defensive lapse.
Holbrook said the incident unsettled Newcastle before the break. Half-time gave the players and coaching staff an opportunity to reset and agree on the approach required for the second half.
“Couldn’t be prouder. I think that’s the best win I’ve been involved in.”
Newcastle remained confident it could still create opportunities in attack. The larger challenge was maintaining the defensive workload and producing decisive plays while a player short.
Holbrook said those moments arrived throughout the second half, allowing the Knights to complete what he called a huge win.
