ACMA SEEKS FEEDBACK ON BROADCASTING TECHNICAL PLANNING GUIDELINES
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has released a preliminary proposal to remake the Broadcasting Services (Technical Planning) Guidelines 2017, with the current guidelines due to sunset in 2027.
The consultation is relevant to Australia’s broadcasting sector because technical planning rules sit within the framework that supports how broadcasting services are planned and managed. Any remake of the guidelines is therefore an industry issue as well as a regulatory update.
The ACMA said it plans to improve the guidelines and expects that there may also be amendments to other elements of the regulatory framework.
Consultation Now Open
The regulator is now seeking views on the preliminary proposal. Submissions are open until 5pm AEST on Wednesday 23 September 2026.
The consultation gives broadcasters, industry participants and other interested parties an opportunity to respond before the guidelines are remade ahead of their scheduled sunset date.
What Happens Next
After considering feedback, the ACMA is expected to progress the remake of the guidelines and any related regulatory amendments required as part of the broader framework.
