HBO Max and Australia Post mark Back to Hogwarts Day in Sydney – HBO Max and Australia Post have welcomed Harry Potter fans to Sydney’s historic General Post Office for the Harry Potter Owl Post Experience, a weekend activation celebrating Back to Hogwarts Day.
Held across Saturday 29 August and Sunday 30 August, the event turned one of Australia’s oldest post offices into a wizarding world destination ahead of Back to Hogwarts Day on 1 September.
For Australian viewers, the event keeps Harry Potter at the centre of HBO Max’s family and franchise offering, while also giving local fans a physical celebration tied to one of the biggest annual moments on the Wizarding World calendar.
Visitors were invited to create enchanted letters using quills and wax seals inspired by the Harry Potter stories, then send them from the themed Owl Post space.
Fans also stepped inside a letter swarm installation inspired by the famous scene in which Harry receives his Hogwarts acceptance letters.
Global celebration
Back to Hogwarts is the annual global fan event marking students’ return to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This year’s celebration spans fan communities and destinations across cities including London, Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Venice, New York, Chicago, Tokyo, Beijing and Mexico City.
In Australia, the celebrations also continue with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone returning to cinemas for its 25th anniversary. The limited-time screenings include 12 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage shown on the big screen for the first time.
The release also points fans back to HBO Max as a streaming home for Warner Bros. Discovery entertainment, with Harry Potter sitting alongside HBO, Warner Bros., Max Originals and other major brands on the service.
