Prime Video brings new lip-sync technology to Maxton Hall – Prime Video has introduced new lip-sync technology to Maxton Hall. It synchronises actors’ on-screen mouth movements with human-dubbed English audio tracks.
The Prime Video lip-sync technology is available globally in English on Seasons 1 and 2 of the hit German-language drama. It will also be used when the third and final season arrives exclusively on Prime Video on 9 December.
For Australian viewers, the change is designed to make one of Prime Video’s biggest International Originals feel more natural in English. The dubbed audio remains the work of real voice actors.
How the technology works
Prime Video uses AI and VFX technologies to support the visual dubbing process. The system helps align the dubbed performance with the actor’s mouth movements on screen.
According to Prime Video, the change is meant to remove a familiar distraction of traditional dubbing. It also creates specialised work in localisation and visual effects.
What it means for Maxton Hall
Maxton Hall is Prime Video’s most-watched International Original series ever. Its final season is based on Mona Kasten’s 2018 novel Save Me.
“With lip-syncing, we’re creating a more seamless and immersive way for customers to enjoy global content,” said Raf Soltanovich, vice president of technology at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. “For creators, we’re making it easier for their stories to reach an even broader and global audience, all done under creative oversight to ensure the integrity of their artistic vision is preserved.”
Prime Video plans to expand the technology to additional titles in future.
