Analysis
Seven
Seven News was #3 with wins in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Seven News at 6:30 was #2 with wins in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. Home and Away was #9 with 459 000 viewers. Code 1: Minute by Minute returned for a new season with just 234 000 viewers. It was mauled in the slot by 9, 10 and ABC. The Front Bar was #20 with 233 000 viewers and although strong in Melbourne, the figure of 26 000 in Brisbane would be a worry for Seven. A repeat of Kitchen Nightmares followed with just 93 000 viewers. A repeat of Police Code Zero: Officers Under Attack had an audience of 42 000. A late night repeat of Autopsy USA did 32 000.
Nine
Nine News was #5 with a win in Sydney and Brisbane. Nine News 6:30 was #4 with a win in Sydney. A Current Affair was #6 overall, but #1 in its slot with 621 000. Married at First Sight (MAFS) completely dominated the night and its timeslot, #1 with 836 000. The show is very consistent night to night, hovering around 830k in overnights. This in turn helped launch the new season of Under Investigation with Liz Hayes which returned to an impressive 415 000 and ranked #11 for the night. Nine News Late had another bumper night with 199 000 viewers. See No Evil premiered a new season to 105 000, which nearly tripled that of Seven’s offering. The new series premiere of NBC’s Ordinary Joe ran late night to 50 000. With the NBCU contract now with Seven, Nine is playing out any series they still have before expiry.
10
The Project 6:30pm was on 173 000 before 234 000 watched the second half hour, The Project 7pm. The Dog House Australia premiered its new season (minus Dr. Chris Brown) with 325 000 and beat Code 1: Minute by Minute on Seven. Fire Country had 100 000 viewers at 8:30. A repeat of Bull did 77 000 and a second repeat of Bull was on 60 000. The 9:30 slot seems wasted on repeats when 10 has new episodes of Blue Bloods and CSI: Vegas available. The 10:30 slot could be used for Good Sam, which is still to be played out by the network.
ABC
ABC News was #7 for the night. 730 was #10 with 430 000 viewers. Hard Quiz was back with a new season and 492 000 viewers to sit at #8 for the night. The Weekly with Charlie Pickering was #13 with 396 000. A repeat of Utopia was #21 with 229 000. A repeat of Spicks and Specks was on 167 000. Adam Hills: The Last Leg had an audience of 114 000. I wonder whether ABC would have been better launching the previous week to not allow 7, 9 and 10 to have a week’s breath to launch their tentpoles.
