Total TV reaches 86.7% of Australians every month as live sport drives record viewing – Total TV reached 86.7% of Australians each month in the first half of 2026, according to OzTAM’s latest VOZ Total TV Viewing Report.
The new report is an important snapshot for Australia’s television industry because it brings broadcast TV and BVOD viewing together across devices. It also shows how major live sport continues to anchor mass viewing, even as audiences increasingly split their viewing between TV sets and connected devices.
OzTAM says Total TV delivered 70 billion minutes of broadcast TV and BVOD content each month during the reporting period. BVOD now accounts for 19.1% of Total TV viewing minutes, up from 16.2% in the second half of 2025.
The report is based on the VOZ Total TV currency database and covers viewing from 28 December 2025 to 27 June 2026, covering Weeks 1 to 26 of 2026. It provides a national, de-duplicated view of free-to-air broadcast TV and BVOD viewing across devices, audiences and genres.
Live sport pushes viewing higher
Major live sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup and NRL State of Origin, helped drive record viewing across screens.
OzTAM says the FIFA World Cup and State of Origin contributed to 4.8 billion BVOD viewing minutes in Week 25, from 14 to 20 June. That was the highest weekly volume since the launch of VOZ currency in December 2021.
BVOD keeps extending Total TV reach
BVOD continues to extend Total TV reach, particularly among younger audiences. The 16 to 39 age demographic recorded the highest exclusive BVOD monthly reach, at 19.9%.
Viewing patterns also continue to vary by screen and demographic. The TV set remains the dominant viewing screen, while viewing on computers, tablets and smartphones continues to grow across all demographics, led by people aged 16 to 39.
FAST channels add another viewing pattern
OzTAM says viewing choices continue to diversify, with FAST, or free ad-supported streaming TV, channels accounting for 4.5% of BVOD viewing. The report notes FAST channels show a distinct viewing pattern, particularly during daytime and on weekends.
OzTAM Chief Executive Officer Karen Halligan said Total TV continues to demonstrate scale and relevance, while BVOD growth shows that audiences want more flexibility in how and when they watch.
Halligan said live sporting events also continue to bring mass audiences together and that the VOZ Total TV Viewing Report gives the industry a clear view of the trends shaping how Australians watch television.
The report is distinct from OzTAM’s Streamscape report, although it contains a snapshot from that report. Streamscape incorporates viewing data from subscription video-on-demand and other streaming services.
