NT Live: Les Liaisons Dangereuses heads to Australian cinemas this July – Lesley Manville and Aidan Turner star in a striking new staging of Christopher Hampton’s celebrated adaptation, releasing in select Australian cinemas from 23 July 2026.
Filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, Les Liaisons Dangereuses brings the classic tale of love, lies and social warfare to the big screen.
BAFTA Award-winner Lesley Manville, known for Phantom Thread and Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, stars alongside Aidan Turner, known for Rivals and Poldark, in the new production directed by Marianne Elliott.
Set among the glittering salons of the super-rich, the story follows Marquise de Merteuil, a master in the art of survival, and the magnetic Vicomte de Valmont. Together, they turn seduction into strategy and weaponise desire.
But when their alliance collapses into rivalry, the battle between them threatens to destroy everyone in their path.
The production has received strong acclaim, with The Guardian describing Manville as “queenly” in “this dark, rageful tale of seduction as contact sport.” Time Out praised the production’s “two sensational leads,” while London Theatre called Manville and Turner “magnetic as the scheming libertines.”
NT Live: Les Liaisons Dangereuses opens in select Australian cinemas from 23 July 2026, with tickets on sale now.
