The film opens in cinemas across Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, 2 July 2026, with tickets on sale now.
Directed by Kane Parsons, Backrooms – Everything Must Go features 16 minutes of brand new footage created for the cinema release. The film stars Academy Award nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, alongside Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell.
The premise is simple, eerie and unsettling. A strange doorway appears in the basement of a furniture showroom. From there, the film invites audiences into a mysterious and disorienting space where the ordinary quickly becomes something much darker.
Parsons also created the original series on which the film is based. That connection gives the cinema release a direct link to the world that first captured audiences online, while the new footage gives fans a fresh reason to experience the story on the big screen.
The screenplay is written by Will Soodik.
With its unsettling concept, expanded footage and a cast led by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve, Backrooms – Everything Must Go brings the internet-born horror phenomenon to cinemas in a new way.
