Jonathan LaPaglia narrates Binge reality series Apocalypse – Jonathan LaPaglia has joined Binge’s ambitious new original reality series Apocalypse as its narrator, with the first teaser revealing the scale of the survival experiment.
LaPaglia brings an immediately recognisable voice to the eight-part series after almost a decade guiding contestants and viewers through Australian Survivor. His appointment also follows his presenting role on Top Gear Australia.
The choice signals that Binge wants the human strategy and social dynamics to carry as much weight as the large-scale post-disaster setting. The series will test how ordinary people respond when modern comforts, communication and outside support disappear.

A post-disaster world built for television
Apocalypse was filmed in a real abandoned town that is now used as an urban-warfare training centre. The location becomes an immersive post-disaster environment where participants must rebuild, form relationships and rely on one another.
The Australian and British participants enter without phones, supplies or outside contact. They must combine their different backgrounds and practical skills while making decisions that affect the wider group.
That premise makes the format part survival series and part psychological experiment. Binge says the production is cinematic in scale, emotionally charged and among its most ambitious originals to date.
Jonathan LaPaglia takes viewers through the experiment
LaPaglia said the scale and ambition of Apocalypse immediately attracted him to the project.
“Dropping ordinary people into a post-disaster world where every decision matters creates a fascinating test of resilience, relationships and survival.”
He said his previous work had given him years of experience watching people manage pressure, uncertainty and strategic choices. However, the new environment pushes those dynamics into unfamiliar territory.
LaPaglia will guide viewers through the challenges, shifting alliances and unexpected decisions as the participants attempt to build a functioning community.
Binge and Channel 4 join forces
Apocalypse is a co-commission between Binge and the UK’s Channel 4. The project combines Australian and British production partners for a format designed to travel internationally.
The Garden, part of ITV Studios and a producer behind Squid Game: The Challenge, is making the series with ITV Studios Australia. The Australian company also produces Alone Australia.
Executive producers are Jo Harcourt-Smith and Tim Whitwell for The Garden, Keely Sonntag for ITV Studios Australia, and Howard Myers-Rifai for Foxtel Group. ITV Studios will manage international distribution.
Myers-Rifai, Foxtel Group’s Head of Unscripted Originals, described the series as an important step in Binge’s commitment to producing large-scale Australian originals.
