Analysis

Seven

Seven News – Sunday was #1 with wins in all markets. Australian Idol was #9 with 434 000 and sat 4000 viewers behind Australian Survivor. The new series premiere of Maternal was watched by 186 000 viewers and placed #16 for the night. The new season premiere of What the Killer Did Next opened with 97 000 viewers. The season return of Born to Kill aired late night to 68 000.

Nine

Nine News Sunday was #3 with no wins in any market. The closest Nine got was just a 3000 viewer gap in Melbourne. Married at First Sight (MAFS) was #2 with 834 000 and absolutely dominated the competition. The figure was the second highest for the season and only 6000 viewers off its opening episode of the season. 60 Minutes was strong at #4 overall and crushed the competition in the slot with 623 000 viewers. Nine News Late Sunday was #10 with 373 000. The First 48 had 100 000 viewers just after 10pm. A repeat of Manhunt: The Wests was on 49 000. From next week, Nine will shift The First 48 and Manhunt: The Wests an hour later and fill the earlier slot with a repeat of Australian Crime Stories.

10

The Sunday Project started the evening at #19 with 166 000 viewers. The Sunday Project 7pm was #11 with 265 000. Australian Survivor was #8 with 438 000 and placed just ahead of Australian Idol. It was fairly close across the capital markets with the main difference being Brisbane preferring Survivor and Perth preferring Idol. A repeat of NCIS: Hawaii had 117 000 viewers and a repeat of FBI had 90 000 viewers.

ABC

ABC News Sunday was #5 for the night. A repeat of Joanna Lumley’s Unseen Adventures was #6 with 468 000 and beat both Survivor and Idol. A repeat of Vera was #7 with 453 000. The season final of Wreck had 51 000 watching.

Multi Channels

Winner: 10 Bold / 10 Peach (2.7%)

Second: 7two / 7mate (2.3%)

With all the tentpoles on the main channel and the ABC doing well, there wasn’t much action on the multi channels with a two way two for first with just a 2.7% share. SBS WorldWatch got off its 0.0 rating to be 0.1 last night.

10 Bold was equal first with three repeat episodes of NCIS taking positions #2, #14 and #17.

10 Peach was equal first with 7 repeat episodes of The Big Bang Theory and 6 repeat episodes of Friends.

7two was equal second with three repeat episodes of Border Security: Australia’s Front Line taking positions #8, #10 and #20.

7mate was equal second with two movies – The Amazing Spiderman and Pacific Rim.

Home Shopping

I thought I would throw a somewhat interesting result in here today. Most people are annoyed by the amount of infomercials that the the networks play and wonder if anyone actually watches them. As I flicked through the rankings today, here are some results:

69 000 – Nine

55 000 – Seven

Putting that in perspective – more people watched Nine’s Home Shopping than watched Born to Kill, For the Love of Pets, the movie Rocky, a repeat of The Big Bang Theory, Bondi Vet and the movie Dirty Harry on 9Gem. The same amount of people watched Home Shopping on Seven as they did The Amazing Spiderman movie in primetime on 7mate.
