Recap | The Voice Episode 2 delivered two four-chair turns, an emotional tribute and another secret save as the Blind Auditions continued on Channel 7.
Taylor Beadle-Williams and Charlotte June both joined Team Kate after convincing every coach to turn. Meanwhile, Jack Hughes chose Team Melanie C, and Jamie Koul received a second chance from hidden coach Tones And I.
For TV Central viewers, the episode showed how quickly Kate Miller-Heidke is becoming the coach to beat. It also proved that the secret fifth-coach twist can change an artist’s fate even when no chair turns.
Taylor Beadle-Williams fires up Team Kate
Taylor Beadle-Williams, 37, from New South Wales performed RAYE’s Where Is My Husband. Her powerful delivery produced the night’s first four-chair turn and a standing ovation.
As the daughter of Mark Williams, the frontman of New Zealand rock band Dragon, Taylor has music in the family. However, she made her own impact on the coaches from the opening notes.
During her pitch, Kate called Taylor a “marvel” and a “firecracker”. Ultimately, Taylor chose Team Kate.

Charlotte June moves the coaches to tears
Charlotte June, 22, from South Australia delivered one of the season’s most emotional auditions. She performed Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work in honour of her mother, who is living with early-onset dementia.
All four coaches turned for Charlotte. Moreover, the performance moved Richard Marx and Kate to tears.
After the song, Richard shared the story of his own mother’s death. That revelation led to a heartfelt discussion before Charlotte selected Team Kate.

Jack Hughes brings Liverpool rock to the stage
Originally from Liverpool, Jack Hughes, 29, now lives in Sydney. He performed Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive.
Melanie C and Kate turned for Jack. Melanie praised the gravel in his voice and described the audition as a brilliant rock performance.
Ultimately, their shared Liverpool connection helped Melanie secure Jack as her second artist of the competition.

Tones And I secretly saves Jamie Koul
Jamie Koul, 19, from Victoria performed Nick Jonas’ Jealous. Although none of the four visible coaches turned, his time in the competition was not over.
Watching from her hidden surveillance room, Tones And I decided the song choice had not shown Jamie’s full potential. She therefore selected him for her secret team.
As a result, Jamie will work with Tones behind the scenes. Later in the Blind Auditions, he will receive another opportunity to perform for the main coaching panel.
This save makes Jamie the second artist recruited by Tones. Previously, she selected New South Wales singer Red Roy during Episode 1.

What happens next?
Crucially, the four main coaches still do not know that Tones And I is watching every audition. She can rescue artists affected by nerves, an unsuitable song choice or a performance that did not show their full ability.
Those artists receive private mentoring before returning for another Blind Audition. Consequently, the coaches may later hear familiar voices without knowing how they remained in the competition.
The Voice continues at 7.30pm tonight on Channel 7 and 7plus.
