Recap | Tones And I rewrites The Voice rulebook on Channel 7 – Tones And I has been revealed as the secret fifth coach on The Voice, with a world-first power that gives selected artists a second chance.
Hidden backstage in a surveillance room, Tones watched the Blind Auditions without fellow coaches Melanie C, Ronan Keating, Richard Marx and Kate Miller-Heidke knowing she was there.
The twist gives Channel 7’s revived season a continuing storyline beyond the usual chair-turn decisions. It also keeps selected artists in the competition after the other coaches have passed on them.
Tones And I’s Secret Power Revealed
Tones can save artists who fail to receive a chair turn. Those performers join Team Tones for private mentoring before returning to the Blind Auditions for another opportunity.
“I’m so excited. The other Coaches have no idea that I’m even here,” Tones said. “I feel like the fairy godmother, and I get to save all these beautiful Australian artists.”
Red Roy Receives The First Save
NSW busker and youth worker Red Roy became the first artist rescued by the new twist. His energetic performance of Bruno Mars and Rose’s APT. did not earn a chair turn, with the coaches feeling his movement had distracted from his vocal.
Tones saw enough potential to step in. “I did hear potential and that’s why I’m here, to give someone a second chance when they missed the mark on their first Blind Audition,” she said.
Red Roy will now work with Tones before returning to perform for the four main coaches again.
Three Artists Turn All Four Chairs
Fifteen-year-old Daisha Auda from Logan, Queensland, delivered one of the night’s biggest performances with Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You. Melanie C said the teenager had “taken the roof off” before Daisha chose Team Ronan.
Katoomba artist Tommy Novak also secured four chair turns with Fleetwood Mac’s Landslide. The performance earned a standing ovation, while Richard Marx told him: “You are not a singer; you are an artist.” Tommy joined Team Richard.
Wollongong freight train driver Josh McCauley completed the night’s trio of four-chair turns with Leon Bridges’ River. Kate and Melanie C used their blocks during the battle, and Josh ultimately selected Team Melanie C.
Phoebe Rose Joins Team Ronan
Teenage country singer Phoebe Rose, from Aroona in Queensland, performed Eva Cassidy’s Fields of Gold. Three coaches turned for her before she chose Ronan.
The episode leaves Tones with her first secret artist and the other coaches still unaware that rejected performers may be preparing to return.
The Voice continues at 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
