Terminator 2: Judgment Day Returns to Cinemas for 35th Anniversary — James Cameron’s Academy Award-winning sci-fi action classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day is heading back to cinemas worldwide, with Australian and New Zealand screenings set to begin on 3 September 2026.
The 35th anniversary theatrical event will present the landmark 1991 film in 4K and premium formats, using STUDIOCANAL’s acclaimed 2017 restoration and 3D conversion. The global re-release is timed around T2’s in-universe Judgment Day date of 29 August, with the United States opening from 28 August to 2 September before further international dates roll out.
Originally released in 1991, Terminator 2: Judgment Day remains one of the defining action and science-fiction films of modern cinema. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick, the film won four Academy Awards and helped reshape the visual effects landscape with a blockbuster spectacle that still looms large over the genre.
STUDIOCANAL, Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures announced the worldwide return, with STUDIOCANAL handling global distribution across international territories. A new 35th anniversary trailer and nostalgia poster have also been released for the event.
“T2 was made for theatres,” Cameron said, describing the big screen as the best way to see the film.
Anna Marsh, CEO of STUDIOCANAL and Chief Content Officer of CANAL+, said the company was proud to celebrate Cameron’s film with Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures, calling classic cinema restoration and discovery a cornerstone of the studio’s strategy.
Ray Nutt, Chief Executive Officer for Fathom Entertainment, described the re-release as a must-see theatrical event, pointing to the film’s action, performances, sound, visual effects and its Guns N’ Roses soundtrack moment, You Could Be Mine.
