Tamsyn Manou hails Torrie Lewis after Glasgow sprint heat win – Torrie Lewis has made a strong start to her Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign, winning her opening 100m heat on Seven.
Tamsyn Manou praised the Australian sprinter during Seven’s Monday night coverage. Bruce McAvaney also noted the speed of the run, which came in windy conditions.
The result keeps Lewis at the centre of Australia’s athletics story as the sprint rounds continue in Glasgow.
A Fast Start
Before the race, McAvaney said the fastest first-round Commonwealth Games 100m by an Australian woman was 11.25. Colleen Pekin ran that time in Brisbane in 1982. Kerry Johnson matched it in Auckland in 1990.
Lewis then crossed in 11.15. The time was wind-assisted, but it still showed her pace and confidence.
That was a fabulous piece of sprinting.

Manou Praises Lewis
Manou said Lewis looked calm through the race. She also said Lewis made a quick time look controlled and relaxed.
She pointed to Lewis’ improved strength, technique and confidence. Those gains followed overseas training with coach Laurent Muller and a strong international group.
As a result, Lewis now moves into the next stage with momentum. The semi-finals and final will bring more pressure, but her first run gave Seven a clear Australian highlight.
