Major League Baseball swings back into action with Opening Day Triple Header on ESPN – The new Major League Baseball season arrives live across ESPN with three games back to back on opening day, Friday March 28 – led by defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers, fellow World Series contenders New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Â
Friday’s MLB Opening Day action begins at 6am AEDT live on ESPN when the New York Yankees meet the Milwaukee Brewers in a special ESPN presentation from Yankee Stadium.
Â
Joe Buck, the voice of ESPN’s Monday Night Football and a veteran of 24 World Series, will call his first MLB game since the 2021 ‘Fall Classic’.
Â
Buck will be joined by guest analysts Joe Girardi (YES Network) and Bill Schroeder (Milwaukee Brewers) on commentary.
Â
The 2024 American League Champion Yankees’ will again look to Aaron Judge to spearhead their campaign.
Â
With Juan Soto leaving for the Mets, all eyes turn to Judge to add to his American League MVP tally, having won two of the last three.
Â
The Yankees went all the way to the World Series last season, falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Â
The World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers continue their MLB title defence at 10am AEDT on ESPN, clashing with the Detroit Tigers.
Â
Another MLB championship is the expectation for the star studded Dodgers roster, including superstar Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw and Yoshinobu Yamamoto – making it one of the most talented rosters seen in the modern era.
Â
Los Angeles is also setting sights on the MLB regular season win record – standing at 117.Â
Â
On Opening Day, NL MVP Ohtani will face off against the Tigers’ ace pitcher and reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, in an intriguing contest in LA.
Â
ESPN will also broadcast Baseball Tonight from 9am AEDT, which will capture the World Series celebration and festivities from Dodger Stadium prior to the game.
Â
The triple treat concludes at 1pm AEDT on ESPN where the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs do battle.
Â
Chicago Cubs last made the postseason in 2020 and fans are starting to get restless.
Â
The Diamondbacks will hope 2025 is a resurgent year for young star Corbin Carroll.
Â
After being crowned National League rookie of the year, Carroll didn’t set the same heights in 2024. He and Corbin Burnes remain the keys for Arizona to make a push to the playoffs and potentially beyond.
Â
In a crazy baseball offseason, several franchises have renewed hope that MLB 25 will be their year.
Â
New York Mets capture of Juan Soto was the biggest acquisition in more ways than one.
Â
Having made the move from the Yankees to the Mets, it now makes Soto enemy number one in the Bronx. After helping to take the Yankees to the World Series, can he now do the same for the long suffering New York Mets?
Â
Australia’s number one draft pick Travis Bazzana continues to ply his trade in the minor leagues and 2025 may yet see the Sydney product realise his MLB dream with the Cleveland Guardians.
