Teen sprint sensation headlines Maurie Plant Meet tomorrow on Seven and 7plus Sport – Live and free coverage only on Seven and 7plus Sport
Seventeen-year-old sprint sensation Gout Gout has been making global headlines with his record-breaking speed. Now, fans can watch Australia’s fastest man in action as he races in the Peter Norman Memorial 200m at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, broadcast live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport from 7.00pm AEDT tomorrow.
Broadcasting live from the track, Seven has assembled an exceptional commentary and hosting lineup for the event headlined by the incomparable Bruce McAvaney and Sunrise co-host and Olympic sprinter, Matt Shirvington.
Joining them will be Seven’s Jason Richardson and former track and field stars Tamsyn Lewis-Manou and David Culbert.
Fresh from a clocking a blistering wind-assisted speed of 19.98 seconds at the Queensland Athletics Championship on Sunday, Gout has been nothing but consistent in a breakout season that saw him win 200m silver at the World Under 20 Championships and take down Australia’s longest standing open-age record.
Gout will swap his Year 12 textbooks for spikes to travel to Melbourne to compete in the iconic event, broadcast live and free on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.
He will take on a world-class field in the 200m named in honour of Australia’s legendary Olympic sprinter Peter Norman, whose Australian record of 20.06 seconds from 1968 stood until Gout stormed to a sensational 20.04-second performance at the Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in December.
Now, Gout will have a chance to rewrite the history books and race in the event that celebrates Norman’s legacy at the biggest one-day meet of the Chemist Warehouse Summer Series on Saturday, 29 March.
Gout’s presence in the Peter Norman 200m adds another layer of excitement to a meet already shaping up as the crown jewel of the domestic season, with Olympian middle-distance gun Peter Bol lining up in the 1500m, Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo confirmed for the 400m, Australia’s fastest woman Torrie Lewis locked in across 200m and Olympic bronze medallist Matthew Denny ready to roar in the Discus Throw.
