Gout Gout headlines Maurie Plant Meet on Seven and 7plus Sport – Live and free coverage only on Seven and 7plus Sport.

Seventeen-year-old sprint sensation Gout Gout has been making global headlines with his record-breaking speed. Now, fans can watch him in action as he races in the Peter Norman Memorial 200m at the Maurie Plant Meet, broadcast live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport from 7.00pm AEDT on Saturday, 29 March.

Broadcasting live from the track, Seven has assembled an exceptional commentary and hosting lineup for the event headlined by the incomparable Bruce McAvaney and Sunrise co-host and Olympic sprinter, Matt Shirvington.

Joining them will be Seven’s Jason Richardson, Tamsyn Lewis-Manou and David Culbert.

Fresh off a breakout season that saw him win 200m silver at the World Under 20 Championships and take down Australia’s longest standing open-age record, Gout will swap his Year 12 textbooks for spikes to travel to Melbourne to compete in the iconic event, broadcast live and free on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport.

He will take on a world-class field in the 200m named in honour of Australia’s legendary Olympic sprinter Peter Norman, whose Australian record of 20.06 seconds from 1968 stood until Gout himself stormed to a sensational 20.04-second performance at the Chemist Warehouse Australian All Schools Athletics Championships in December.

Now, Gout will race in the event that celebrates Norman’s legacy at the biggest one day meet of the Chemist Warehouse Summer Series.

Gout Gout headlines Maurie Plant Meet on Seven and 7plus Sport

“I’m super excited to be running in Maurie Plant on 29 March,”

– Gout said.

“I was there last year, I really enjoyed it there and what was exciting was that there was a great atmosphere, but I reckon I’ve got a lot more to bring this year to Melbourne. I’m hoping to run great.”

Seven Network Head of Sport – Digital, Kirsty Bradmore, said:

“Gout Gout is the most exciting name in athletics right now and we absolutely cannot wait to watch him in action, live, free and in prime time on Seven and 7plus in a few weeks’ time.

“Seven’s coverage of the Maurie Plant Meet will be broadcast across Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport in prime time, meaning more Australians than ever before can tune in as our country’s most exciting new prospect hits the track.

“With an unbelievable slate of live and free sport on Seven and 7plus Sprot, kicking off with tonight’s epic AFL season opener between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn, plus all the action live from next Saturday’s Sydney Track Classic, there’s nowhere else to be than right here on Seven and 7plus Sport,”

– she said.
Australian Athletics Chief Executive Officer, Simon Hollingsworth said:

“Australian athletics has entered a golden era and the Maurie Plant Meet – Melbourne is the perfect showcase of what our sport has to offer.

“To have this event broadcast on Seven and 7plus speaks volumes about the momentum our sport has right now,”

– Hollingsworth said.

“We are thrilled to have Seven’s support in bringing the Maurie Plant Meet to more Australians than ever before. Australian athletics has some of the most exciting athletes, such as Gout Gout, Matt Denny, and Torrie Lewis to name a few and having the event on free-to-air television ensures that more fans than ever before can witness world-class performances live. We can’t wait to see the excitement this brings to households nationwide.”

Gout’s presence in the Peter Norman 200m adds another layer of excitement to a meet already shaping up as the crown jewel of the domestic season, with Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo confirmed for the 400m, Australia’s fastest woman Torrie Lewis locked in over 200m and Olympic bronze medallist Matthew Denny ready to roar in the Discus Throw.
