CHANNEL 7’S THE VOICE BLIND AUDITIONS EPISODE 5 RECAP – The Blind Auditions continued on Channel 7 and 7plus tonight, with three four-chair turns and another bold save from fifth Coach Tones And I.
The episode moved through pop, opera and classic Australian ballad territory. As a result, the coaches had to chase very different types of artists across the night.
For Channel 7, the episode also kept the new season twist front and centre. Even when the main coaches do not turn, Tones And I can still step in from her hidden room and give an artist a second chance.
Charlotte Macphail
Charlotte Macphail, 16, from New South Wales, delivered one of the night’s biggest pop auditions.
She performed Rihanna’s Where Have You Been and earned a four-chair turn. Charlotte said she had dreamed of appearing on The Voice since she was six.
The young dancer travels five hours a day for training. That discipline came through in the performance, with Kate Miller-Heidke calling it a showstopper moment.
Melanie C also praised Charlotte’s star quality and dance ability. After the coach battle, Charlotte chose Team Melanie C.
Lachlann Lawton
Lachlann Lawton, 32, also turned all four chairs. Originally from Bunbury in Western Australia, he now lives in New South Wales.
Lachlann made The Voice history by performing his Blind Audition without a microphone. He chose Rossini’s Largo Al Factotum, drawing on 15 years of opera training.
Kate praised his courage and stage presence. Meanwhile, Ronan Keating said he wanted to help bring opera into a more mainstream space.
In the end, Lachlann joined Team Kate.
Jessica McPherson-Riley
Jessica McPherson-Riley, 41, from Victoria, gave the episode one of its most emotional turns.
She performed Wendy Matthews’ The Day You Went Away in honour of her late mother, who died after breast cancer.
The performance earned a four-chair turn. Richard Marx praised the emotional connection in Jessica’s voice, while Kate heard grit, soul, pain and beauty.
Jessica chose Team Richard.
Georgia Dabbous
Georgia Dabbous, 26, from Victoria, performed Olivia Dean’s The Hardest Part.
Before the audition, Georgia spoke about body confidence and music as a safe place. She also said she had quit her job to chase music with no back-up plan.
The main coaches did not turn. However, Tones And I used her save and called Georgia the easiest decision so far.
Georgia now joins Tones And I’s team alongside Red Roy, Jamie Koul, Lilita Keni and Dicko.
The Voice continues at 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday on Channel 7 and 7plus.
