Centimetre Perfect: Dennis Cometti documentary premieres on Channel 7 – Seven’s feature-length tribute to the Australian sports commentator makes its world premiere at 8.30pm on Wednesday, 23 September, on Channel 7 and 7plus.
Centimetre Perfect follows Dennis Cometti’s life and broadcasting career, which spanned more than four decades. His timing, warmth and distinctive turns of phrase became familiar to generations of sports viewers, particularly through his AFL commentary.
The documentary brings together family, fellow broadcasters and athletes to explore both the public voice and the person behind it. For Channel 7 viewers, it also revisits the Cometti–Bruce McAvaney partnership that accompanied many major sporting moments.
Who appears in Centimetre Perfect?
Cometti’s son Mark reflects on growing up with Dennis. Olympic champions Kieren Perkins and Susie O’Neill discuss his ability to capture the emotion of elite sport. The programme also features Bruce McAvaney, Eddie McGuire, Sandy Roberts and Basil Zempilas.
AFL figures Nick Riewoldt, Chris Judd and Bob Murphy offer their perspectives on Cometti’s broadcasting legacy. In the exclusive preview below, McAvaney, McGuire and Zempilas focus on his long-running commentary partnership with McAvaney.
Seven Sport’s production team
Seven Sport produced Centimetre Perfect for the Seven Network. Director of Sport Chris Jones led the project, with Gary O’Keeffe as executive producer and Cassie Treagus as supervising producer. Josh Sim, Jarvis Hunder and Josh Kay served as producers.
The film premieres at 8.30pm Wednesday, 23 September 2026 on Channel 7 and 7plus. Its extended running time allows the contributors to reflect on Cometti’s career, his relationships and the enduring language he brought to Australian sport.
