Cop This premieres on Channel 10 with Ed Kavalee’s comedy ensemble – A suburban police station faces its strangest Grand Final Day yet when the Australian comedy telemovie arrives at 9.40pm on Monday, 5 October.
Ed Kavalee created, wrote, produced and co-directed Cop This. The story unfolds over 24 hours as two remaining officers learn that an AI-powered police “Terminal” is about to replace them. Surviving one last shift would be difficult enough without a dangerous criminal and an actor intent on immersing himself in police life.
The Melbourne-shot production gives Channel 10 a locally made ensemble comedy in a prime evening slot, with a roster spanning television, stand-up and sketch comedy. It is a telemovie rather than a new ongoing police series.
The officers, criminal and method actor
Nicolette Minster plays Sergeant Jo Hardy, who has spent two decades watching less capable colleagues advance. Ray O’Leary is Matt Pepper, her mild-mannered partner, who is rather less prepared for confrontation.
Then Jayden, a lifelong criminal played by Gary Sweet, is brought into their care. Toby Truslove plays Peter King, an actor who describes himself as a storyteller, activist and “Human Experience Reflector” and decides to embed himself at the station for a full-method experience. Those arrivals turn the officers’ final day into an increasingly chaotic one.
A large Australian comedy cast
Alongside Minster, O’Leary, Sweet, Kavalee and Truslove, the cast includes Rob Carlton, Tony Martin, Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann, Dane Simpson, Celia Pacquola, Luke McGregor, Rob Sitch, Josh Lawson, Julia Morris and Dave Hughes.
Dilruk Jayasinha, Lizzy Hoo, Tommy Little, Claire Hooper, Ryan Moloney, Lawrence Mooney, Mick Molloy, Glenn Robbins, Tom Gleisner, Kate Langbroek and Grant Denyer also appear. Kavalee said the production was an opportunity to show the breadth of Australian comic talent and make an outright comedy telemovie, rather than a drama with comic touches.
Cop This was filmed entirely on location in Melbourne. It is an EHK Production with major production investment from Paramount Australia and New Zealand and finance in association with VicScreen.
Cop This premieres Monday, 5 October 2026 at 9.40pm on Channel 10 and will also stream free through 10’s viewing service.
