MOVIE | Life Could Be a Dream trailer – Maslow Entertainment has announced today that Jasmin Tarasin’s stunning feature film debut LIFE COULD BE A DREAM will be released in cinemas across Australia on 14 May 2026, with the film’s trailer also being released today.

In support of one of the key themes of the film, a donation of $1.00 from every ticket sold across the Palace Cinemas circuit during the release of the film will be made to The Man Cave, Australia’s leading preventative mental health charity for boys and young men that run workshops to help them build healthier relationships with themselves and those around them.

In response to this partnership, The Man Cave’s Head Facilitator, Josh Glover, said:

“LIFE COULD BE A DREAM shows that when we surround teenage boys with unconditional love and strong, supportive relationships, we create the space for them to choose empathy over harm, and to grow into strong, kind and courageous men”.

LIFE COULD BE A DREAM stars Maeve Dermody (TV’s Strife, Carnival Row) in a quietly devastating and luminous performance, alongside Alexander England (Alien: Covenant, How to Please a Woman) and introduces young actor Sonny McGee. The screenplay is written by acclaimed author Courtney Collins (The Burial, Bird).

Described as a fractured fairytale of resilience and grace, LIFE COULD BE A DREAM follows Sarah, a forty-year-old woman standing at the threshold of a life she’s never lived. As she and her teenage son Otis navigate their way toward freedom, they must confront both external threats and the mythology Sarah has held about rescue and relationships.

Finding temporary sanctuary in a luxurious mansion she’s been tasked with selling, Sarah begins to imagine a different future one defined by choice rather than fear. This is a story about breaking cycles: a mother trying to model strength for her son while learning, herself, what it means to let go and begin again. At its heart lies the fierce and fragile bond between Sarah and Otis as they redefine their relationship and discover what liberation can look like.

Director Jasmin Tarasin comments:

“My hope is that this film serves as a beacon, showing that liberation is possible, one woman and her son finding their way towards a future defined by choice rather than fear”.

LIFE COULD BE A DREAM marks a powerful debut in narrative feature filmmaking for director Jasmin Tarasin. Jasmin Tarasin is an Australian director and award-winning filmmaker whose work blends emotional depth, striking visual storytelling, and a commitment to amplifying women’s voices. Her acclaimed documentary Utopia Girls (ABC1) was a finalist at the AACTA Awards and the NSW Premier’s History Awards, and her artistic work has featured at major festivals including the Sydney Festival.

LIFE COULD BE A DREAM is produced and directed by Jasmin Tarasin, with production by Pure Pictures and Goodchat, in association with Minderoo Pictures and Snow Foundation.

The film is proudly supported by Commonwealth Bank through CommBank Next Chapter, an initiative that helps people across Australia experiencing financial abuse—even if you don’t bank with them. This partnership reflects CommBank’s commitment to support those impacted to regain control of their finances, rebuild confidence and take steps toward long‑term financial independence.

The Director of Photography is US-based Australian Meg White, whose impressive credits include While The Men Are Away and Ten Pound Poms. The film features a hauntingly beautiful score by Dan Luscombe, with original tracks by internationally acclaimed pianist Hania Rani and Australian duo Time for Dreams, creating a deeply emotional and atmospheric soundscape.

Distributed by Maslow Entertainment, LIFE COULD BE A DREAM will be released in cinemas nationally on 14 May 2026.
