Luke Keary Declares Stephen Crichton Is Canterbury’s Real Halfback, Not Lachlan Galvin – Former NRL premiership winner Luke Keary believes Stephen Crichton, not Lachlan Galvin, is currently operating as Canterbury’s true halfback.
Speaking on The Agenda Setters: Rugby League, Keary argued that despite Galvin being named in the halves, it was Bulldogs captain Crichton who took control of the side’s attack and steered the team around the park.
“Stephen Crichton, he didn’t play five-eighth on the weekend, did he?” Keary said.
When Aaron Woods questioned the claim, Keary doubled down.
“He played halfback on the weekend.”
Woods pointed to the statistics, noting Crichton had 15 kicks compared to Galvin’s six, despite having fewer runs.
“You tell me who’s playing halfback,” Keary said.
“I watched him very closely that game. He stood behind that ruck. He led that team the whole game. He was in charge with getting them around the park.”
David Riccio then asked whether Canterbury should continue with the current arrangement, prompting Keary to reveal what he believes is the Bulldogs’ long-term plan.
“They have to,” he said.
“I said it last week, they’ve got a new spine next year. Nine, seven, six, one.
“Galvin will go to six, they’ll find a seven. They’ll put a one in there, Freddy Lussick into nine.
“He is their seven, not their six for the rest of this season.”
Keary’s comments add further intrigue to Canterbury’s evolving spine and the role of high-profile recruit Lachlan Galvin, with the former Sydney Roosters playmaker suggesting the Bulldogs’ best structure has Crichton directing the team.
The comments came during a discussion alongside Corey Parker, David Riccio and Aaron Woods on The Agenda Setters: Rugby League.
The Agenda Setters: Rugby League airs on Seven and streams on 7plus.
