Football’s #1 commentary team is primed to bring fans an unrivalled 2025 AFL season live and free on Seven and, for the first time, streamed on 7plus Sport.
With a stellar team of experts, headlined by a group of new recruits, there’s no other place footy fans will want to be than Seven and 7plus Sport, Your Home of Footy.
As the network unveils its exciting new football programming slate as part of its supercharged AFL digital rights, Seven will welcome a cavalcade of Australian football media’s biggest names to its seven-day-a-week AFL line up in 2025, including Australian football’s most acclaimed journalist, Caroline Wilson.
Returning home to Seven after 20 years, Wilson joins Seven as a panelist for the network’s new, hard-hitting football panel show, The Agenda Setters, set to air in prime time on Monday and Tuesday nights, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.
Joining Wilson on The Agenda Setters will be fellow new recruits Craig Hutchison, Kane Cornes and Nick Riewoldt, alongside existing 7AFL experts Dale Thomas and Luke Hodge.
Following his return to Seven’s AFL coverage for the 2024 Finals Series, legendary sports broadcaster Bruce McAvaney will also make his return as host of Seven’s AFL coverage across Sunday nights and marquee matches.
With a focus on integrating current-day players into match coverage, Seven also welcomes 403-game player and six-time All Australian, Scott Pendlebury, to its Friday Night Football coverage for select rounds throughout the season.
In a newly created out of play expert role, the man affectionately known as “Pendles” will provide unrivalled expertise alongside Seven’s experienced Friday Night Footy team.
In a bonus for fans, GWS Giants Captain, Toby Greene will also step behind the Seven microphone on Friday, 7 March for the Opening Round clash between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn at the MCG, before much-loved Carlton skipper, Sam Docherty joins the team for the Western Bulldogs v Collingwood clash in Round Two.
Also joining Seven’s talent-stacked AFL line up in 2025 is 7NEWS Melbourne’s Chief Sport Presenter, Rebecca Maddern, who will co-host Seven’s coverage every Thursday night.
Maddern will also present the 4.00pm and 6.00pm 7NEWS Melbourne sport bulletin live from stadia across the country.
Following his retirement from the game, former Port Adelaide and Hawthorn forward, Chad Wingard, also joins Seven as an expert commentator for select games during the 2025 season, while Seven sport host and presenter Jason Richardson turns his focus to AFL as he hosts the Sunday Footy Feast, alongside Campbell Brown and Kate McCarthy every week in the lead upto Sunday Afternoon Football.
To bring viewers the biggest breaking news as it happens during match coverage, 7NEWS Chief Football Reporter Mitch Cleary will be on deck alongside football’s #1 commentary team every Thursday night, while new recruit 7NEWS Melbourne Sport Reporter, Xander McGuire, joins the Friday Night Footy team. 7NEWS Melbourne sport reporters Theo Doropoulos and Kate Massey will also be part of the action.
Seven also welcomes back football’s most star-studded line-up for 2025, including the game’s best group of callers: Brian Taylor, James Brayshaw, Hamish McLachlan, Alister Nicholson and Jason Bennett.
Expert commentators Luke Hodge, Abbey Holmes, Matthew Richardson, Erin Phillips, Jobe Watson, Dale Thomas, Joel Selwood and Cameron Ling are also back, while Jude Bolton, Ryan Daniels and Campbell Brown round out the Seven commentary team.
The collection of new AFL shows including The Agenda Setters, Unfiltered, Extra Time, Sunday Footy Feast, The Wash Up, Kane’s Call and Full Sweat – a documentary behind thescenes of the Hawthorn Football Club – will be launched to complement long-standing favourite The Front Bar, to keep footy fans entertained every day of the week, live and free on Sevenand 7plus Sport.

The award-winning sports broadcaster was an AFL commentator from 2002 to 2006 before embarking on an international posting with ESPN and its popular program Aussies Abroad. James Brayshaw – Commentator
Following a distinguished first-class cricket career that saw him average 42.53 runs across 75 matches as a top-order batsman, James has become one of the most respected hosts and commentators in Australian sport. Jude Bolton – Field Commentator

The long-time Hawthorn skipper established himself as one of the great modern leaders in Australian sport over a highly decorated career that included 346 games (305 at the Hawks and 41 at Brisbane), four premierships, three All-Australian selections and two Norm Smith Medals. Bruce McAvaney – Host
Bruce first joined the Seven AFL commentary team in 1990 and has gone on to call more than 1000 AFL games, 20 AFL Grand Finals and hosted 21 Brownlow Medals, making him one of the most revered AFL broadcasters of all time. In recognition of his outstanding career, Bruce was honoured with the Melbourne Press Club Lifetime Achievement Award last year, inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2023, TV WEEK Logie Awards Hall of Fame in 2022, Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2002, and was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia that same year. Bruce’s passion, and depth and breadth of sporting knowledge is simply peerless. Bruce will host Seven’s football coverage across Sunday nights and marquee matches.

A key player in the AFLW’s inaugural year with Brisbane, Kate McCarthy enjoyed a successful playing career at the Lions, St Kilda and Hawthorn. Following her retirement from AFLW, she went on to coach at the Western Bulldogs, before joining Seven’s team as an AFLW Commentator. Hamish McLachlan – Host and Commentator

Alister Nicholson – Commentator
Alister has become one of Australian sport’s most recognisable voices over the past decade as an ABC Grandstand commentator on cricket and AFL football. While he has been a popular member of Seven’s Big Bash League commentary team in recent years, his broadcasting experience extends to the NRL, A-League, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, Australia’s major golf tournaments and the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. He will also call AFL games with Seven in 2025, including Friday Night Footy alongside James Brayshaw.
Scott Pendlebury – Expert Commentator
Affectionately known as “Pendles”, Scott Pendlebury is a dual AFL Premiership Winning Player at Collingwood Football Club and holds the record for the most games played in the black and white guernsey with 403. The 2010 Norm Smith Medallist, six-time All-Australian player and five-time Copeland Trophy winner is the league record holder for disposals, handballs and tackles and became the first VFL/AFL player to reach 10,000 disposals in 2024. Erin Phillips – Expert/Field Commentator
The only AFLW player to win the league best and fairest award twice, Erin Phillips is highly regarded as one of the competition’s premier players. A dual premiership player with the Adelaide Crows, she was named best afield in each of her AFLW Grand Final wins in 2017 and 2019. After stepping into the commentary seat for the first time in 2021, Erin will be seen regularly on Seven’s coverage as she provides expert commentary on Seven’s Sunday Afternoon Footy broadcast as well as other key games across the 2025 season.

Jason Richardson – Sunday Footy Feast Host

Matthew Richardson – Host and Expert Commentator
The Richmond great has been a favourite of Seven viewers for more than a decade, featuring prominently as an expert commentator. One of Tasmania’s favourite sons, “Richo” amassed 800 goals in an acclaimed playing career and remains the all-time leading goalkicker at the MCG with 464. A 16-year career in the AFL saw Joel Selwood stamp his name as one of the best to have played the game. Brian Taylor – Commentator
One of footy’s most respected and entertaining callers, Brian will lead Seven’s Thursday Night Footy coverage in 2025, along with other blockbuster matches throughout the season and Finals Series. One of his generation’s best full forwards, “BT” kicked 527 goals over 140 games with Richmond and Collingwood, winning the Coleman Medal in 1986 with a season tally of 100 goals.

Jobe Watson – Expert Commentator
The former Essendon skipper enjoyed a stellar career as an inside midfielder, winning three club best and fairest awards, the AFLPA’s best captain award in 2012 and two All-Australian selections. Walkley Award-winning columnist and former chief football writer for The Age, Caroline Wilson, returns home to Seven after 20 years, to join The Agenda Setters every Monday and Tuesday night as a panellist alongside AFL’s biggest names. Known as one of Australia’s most acclaimed and hard-hitting football journalists, Caroline will share expert analysis and opinion on AFL news and current affairs.
Chad Wingard – Expert Commentator
Former Port Adelaide and Hawthorn Football Club forward player Chad Wingard enjoyed a stellar career which carried him to 281 games before retirement due to injury in 2024. The two-time All Australian and John Cahill Medallist was recruited as the AFL Indigenous and Social Policy Officer in 2024 and joins Seven as an expert commentator for the 2025 season.
