The Howie Games marks 10 years with Cathy Freeman episode – LiSTNR’s The Howie Games has marked a decade of long-form sporting conversations with a milestone episode featuring Olympic champion Cathy Freeman.
Host Mark ‘Howie’ Howard launched the podcast in August 2016. Since then, The Howie Games has recorded more than 126 million downloads and welcomed more than 280 guests. That scale makes the anniversary a significant Australian audio milestone, especially for a format built around detailed conversations rather than short highlights.
Freeman returns for the anniversary
Freeman joins Howard to revisit her unforgettable 400-metre gold-medal performance at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The episode also looks ahead to Brisbane 2032 and includes her advice for emerging sprinting star Gout Gout as Australia prepares for another home Olympics.
LiSTNR has used the milestone to launch The Howie Games Millionaires Club, which reunites the three guests whose episodes have passed one million listens: Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Fevola and Freeman.
A decade of sporting voices
Over 10 years, Howard has spoken with figures including Lewis Hamilton, Greg Norman, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Layne Beachley, Ian Thorpe, Shane Warne, Lauren Jackson and Meg Lanning. The Freeman conversation adds another defining Australian sporting voice to that archive.
Howard said it was a privilege to sit down with Freeman for the occasion. LiSTNR Head of Sport Michael James said the podcast’s endurance reflected Howard’s warmth and genuine interest in his guests.
