Comeback queens Emma and Michelle score two perfect 10s
Tonight, on My Reno Rules: The competition was turned on its head when Emma and Michelle – aka “the comeback queens” – scored two perfect 10s for their zones, while Mitch and Julia, and Franky and Isaac faced harsh criticism from the judges for their design choices.
Nathan and Julia impressed judges Neale Whitaker, Julia Green and Simon Cohen with a sophisticated kitchen, dining and powder room reveal.
Neale said, “The heart of this home is now beating.” He praised the kitchen as “refined and so beautifully finessed,” saying it ticked so many boxes. Julia told the pair, “I am ready to move into your kitchen,” and applauded their considered choices, describing the dining room as “understated elegance.”
While Neale criticised stools that “didn’t fit” and Julia questioned the basin and pendant lights, the judges still awarded the team a score of 26.5 out of 30, putting them at the top of the leaderboard with 72 points out of 100.
But it was Emma and Michelle who delivered the night’s standout comeback after weeks of criticism. Julia admitted she was relieved upon entering their stairwell, declaring, “Thank God House 1 is back in business!” Neale praised the pair for staying true to their modern luxe style, calling the lounge room “perfect.” Simon described the reveal as “redemption,” saying it was “cool, elegant and well thought out.” Julia later labelled them the “comeback queens,” saying their lounge room was “one of the most considered spaces I’ve seen in the competition to date.”
The praise culminated in two perfect 10s from Neale and Julia, with Neale declaring, “You really found your groove.” Overwhelmed by the result, Emma said, “We’re back, baby!” Their near-perfect 29 out of 30 catapulted them from last place into a tie for second overall.
Franky and Isaac received mixed feedback across their stairwell, living room and laundry zones. Simon praised their staircase as “a very dramatic entrance.”
Neale loved the “very Melbourne” aesthetic of the living room, saying the team had captured the city’s vibe. However, concerns quickly emerged around styling and functionality. Neale said their styling let them down, describing the cushions and throws as underdone, before criticising the study nook under the stairs as “claustrophobic.” Julia was blunt about the laundry, admitting she felt “very confused by the space overall”, and it lacked functionality.
Franky admitted he felt he had let the pair down after the judges scored the team 22 out of 30.
Mitch and Shaz endured their toughest judging yet, particularly in the kitchen and dining spaces. While Neale initially praised elements of the kitchen, saying he “loved the green stone”, the feedback quickly turned. He criticised the Venetian plaster rangehood, saying the colour “really jarred” and should have picked up tones from the stone instead. Julia said there was “so much that frustrated me” about the kitchen and confessed she was shocked it was their work.
Their dining room also came under fire, with Julia branding it “a brown rug with a brown table with a brown chair.”
An emotional Shaz admitted she had become overwhelmed trying to constantly “wow” the judges, as the pair slipped to last place overall heading into the final week of competition.
