My Kitchen Rules on Channel 7: ‘mummified’ pigeon sends Jane and Shane home – Jane and Shane have been eliminated from My Kitchen Rules after an ambitious Blue Mountains dinner collapsed over an overcooked pigeon. Their final score of 50 fell short of Alisha and Deanne’s 68, keeping their rivals in the competition.
Monday night’s result closes the first round of Instant Restaurants and sets up a new contest. Tiffany and Giancarlo and Mary and Golden are heading straight to Kitchen HQ, while three other original teams must face three incoming gatecrasher pairs.
A promising entrée at Lyst Haus
Jane and Shane built their Lyst Haus menu around fine-dining technique: Duck Chawanmushi with King Crab and Caviar, Master Stock Pigeon with Chilli Cucumber, Samphire and Shallot Pancake, and a Tomato Sour dessert.
The first plate made a strong visual impression. Golden thought the chawanmushi looked like a perfect 10, and Angus predicted Alisha and Deanne might be packing their bags. But the custard had not set evenly. Its texture and smell unsettled diners, including Alisha.
Judges Manu Feildel and Colin Fassnidge found merit in the presentation and in the crab-and-caviar flavours. Both, however, identified the unset custard as the crucial technical flaw.
Overcooked pigeon turns dinner into disaster
The main course was the decisive setback. Jane and Shane discovered their pigeon was dry and badly overcooked. A last-minute attempt to rescue it in a pressure cooker did not work, and they served the bird with its claw still attached.
Jane summed up what had gone wrong in the kitchen:
The pigeon is mummified.

Alisha was blunt when the dish reached the table:
You talked a big game and you desecrated your pigeons.

Angus compared the appearance of his portion to a bird that had been in a crematorium. Colin confirmed the meat was overcooked, while Manu could find nothing positive to say about the course. Jane left the kitchen briefly to gather herself.
The Tomato Sour recovered some ground. Combining tomato mascarpone gelato, strawberry and amaretto jam, peppercorn meringue and finger lime, it earned seven points from each judge. The dessert could not undo the damage from the main.
Jane and Shane’s meal scoreboard
Manu and Colin each awarded Jane and Shane 15 out of 30. The entrée drew their highest marks until dessert, while the pigeon was the lowest-scoring course.
| Judge | Entrée | Main | Dessert | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Manu Feildel | 5/10 | 3/10 | 7/10 | 15/30 |
| Colin Fassnidge | 4/10 | 4/10 | 7/10 | 15/30 |
| Judges’ total | 9/20 | 7/20 | 14/20 | 30/60 |
The five other teams contributed 20 out of 50:
| Guest team | Score |
|---|---|
| Tiffany and Giancarlo | 5/10 |
| Angus and Simon | 4/10 |
| Krysten and Lucy | 4/10 |
| Mary and Golden | 4/10 |
| Alisha and Deanne | 3/10 |
| Guest total | 20/50 |
The 30 judge points and 20 guest points left Jane and Shane with 50 out of 110, below Alisha and Deanne’s 68.
After Colin confirmed their elimination, Jane reflected on the dish that had ended their run:
I just know that we’ll never cook another pigeon.
