MOVIE | 2 Moons adds Fadia Abboud to cast – Not-for-profit film and television production company Co-Curious has today announced that award-winning director Fadia Abboud has boarded its sci-fi drama, 2 Moons.
Abboud most recently directed the acclaimed series House of Gods (Matchbox/NBCU/ABC), which screened in International Competition at Series Mania 2024, Four Years Later (Easy Tiger/SBS) which screened at the International Film Festival of India, and Hardball (Northern Pictures/ABC), which won the 2020 Prix Jeunesse International Award for Outstanding Children’s Television and the 2020 International Emmy Award for Best Kids: Live-Action series.
2 Moons is the latest project from Co-Curious, which collaborates with up-and-coming screenwriters to develop unique and bold Australian stories.
Via an innovative partnership with the Powerhouse, the largest museum group in Australia, Co-Curious is once again working with talent from Western Sydney utilising its bespoke multi-writer model. 2 Moons has received development support from Screen Australia.
Powerhouse commissioned Co-Curious to develop the film using their unique multi-writer model of development to tell culturally significant stories about contemporary Australia. Bringing together practitioners from across the NSW creative industries, the film will premiere at Powerhouse Parramatta’s opening in 2026 and then be acquired into the Powerhouse Collection.
Established in 2018, Co-Curious has proven itself capable of producing game-changing films, as demonstrated in the eight-part compendium feature film Here Out West, which opened Sydney Film Festival in 2021 and was nominated for a slew of awards including the AACTA for Best Film.
Abboud will direct a screenplay written by five rising stars: James Elazzi, an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and director whose plays have been nominated in the NSW Premier’s Literary Award three years consecutively; Gabriel Faatau’uu-Satiu, a proud Samoan creative, winner of the best emerging producer award at Sydney Fringe, author of the children’s book Where I’m From and founder of Satiu Studios, one of few production companies in Australia that amplifies Pacific storytelling; Andrew Undi Lee, a queer, Australian-born Korean director, writer and producer and recipient of the AFTRS Kenneth B Myer Award for Exceptional Talent, whose credits include SBS Digital Original horror series Night Bloomers, The Newsreader and the Dendy Award and ADG nominated short film Melon Grab; Randa Sayed whose debut play, The Girl, was shortlisted for the Phillip Parsons Playwriting Award and whose screenwriting credits include the webseries Halal Gurls and television drama Ladies in Black, both for the ABC; and Danielle Stamoulos, whose short film Gorgo – a modern reimagining of Ovid’s Medusa myth – recently won the AACTA Award for Best Short Film at the 2025 Australian Academy for Cinema and Television Arts Awards. The win follows a string of accolades for the film which had its North American premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
The film follows the story of five unique characters rarely seen on screen: a Samoan fa’afafine landscaper, a high-powered Arab property developer who is also a fulltime carer, a Lebanese matriarch with a secret younger lover, a socially marginalised cleaner wrestling with his past, and a dreamer who is pulled into the orbit of her mother’s Orthodox church.
The characters and stories of the film draw on the cultural backgrounds of the writers and provide a unique commentary on what it means to be Australian, living in a global world of political and ecological uncertainty.
With shades of Magnolia, Another Earth and a nod to Don’t Look Up, 2 Moons is a heartfelt and at times surreal search for hope in uncertain times.
Renowned producer Sheila Jayadev also joins as an executive producer. Jayadev is a producer at NBCU’s Matchbox Pictures with recent credits including Critical Incident for Stan and the ground-breaking miniseries House of Godsfor the ABC. Her feature films include Ali’s Wedding, which won the audience Award – Sydney Film Festival and the award-winning Here Out West produced under her Emerald Productions banner.
Abboud and Jayadev join an all-female producing team which includes producer Kali Reid (8 Nights Out West, Click Bait), script producer Clare Atkins (White Fever, The Heights) and executive producer Annabel Davis (Here Out West).
Abboud is a filmmaker based in Sydney, Australia. In addition to her work on series House of Gods, Four Years Later and Hardball, Abboud directed episodes of the Stan series Year Of (Roadshow Rough Diamond), a spin-off of the popular Stan Originals series Bump; After the Verdict (Subtext Pictures/Nine Network), Here Come the Habibs! (Jungle/Nine Network), Barons (2Jons/ABC), Les Norton (Roadshow Rough Diamond/ABC) and Australian Gangster (Roadshow Rough Diamond/Seven Network).
