The opening match sees a grand final match-up, as reigning champs Western United take on runners up Melbourne City. The tense F3 derby will also feature in the opening round between Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets. The Big Blue on the hallowed turf of the new Sydney Football Stadium also highlights the opening round as Sydney FC host Melbourne Victory. The first Sydney derby between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers, will take place in Round 6, before a three week break from mid-November to support the Socceroos during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
