The campaign has been deeply polarising, with voters on both sides trapped in feedback loops that have entrenched division. Gender has been a significant split: a recent Harvard poll shows younger men are solidly behind Trump while young women lean to Harris. This week, Trump faced backlash from a key voting bloc after a comedian at his rally called Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage”, while Harris is distancing herself from Joe Biden who appeared to describe Trump supporters as “garbage”.
