Old People’s Home for Teenagers on ABC – Week 2 of the intergenerational program is devoted to Brainpower.
On Day 1, the participants are back in the Intergenerational Hub where Will greets them with a brain boosting activity called Memory Grapevine.
The participants are divided into two groups and are given a grocery list containing six items. It is up to the group leader to memorise that list and in a line formation, whisper the list to the person behind them, until the list makes its way to the last person in line, who puts the ‘remembered’ items in a grocery basket to see how close they are to the original list.
On Day 2, the Intergenerational Hub has undergone a transformation and our participants are back in the classroom, where the morning’s activity is all about exploring the group’s feelings and thoughts towards certain words.
Day 3, the group head outside for some paintball. The participants have some fun throwing different coloured balls of paint on to blank canvases. Pat, however, struggles to join in on this activity. With a fear of falls, she watches the activity from the comfort of her walker.
Finally, the participants take part in a baking activity that culminates with a celebratory picnic.
