The X-Files ordered to series with Ryan Coogler: what Australia knows — Ryan Coogler’s reimagining of The X-Files has moved from pilot to a full series order at Hulu. Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel will lead the new paranormal drama.

The Australian detail is still a question mark. Disney has confirmed the series for Disney+ in the UK, but its announcement does not name an Australian platform, premiere date or launch window. An Australian Disney+ release is plausible, not yet confirmed.

In the meantime, the original 11-season series is listed on Disney+ Australia. That is an option for a rewatch, not confirmation that the new version will land on the same service here.

The story follows two decorated but very different FBI agents. They are sent to a long-closed division that investigates unexplained phenomena, setting up a new pair of investigators rather than simply announcing a continuation of Mulder and Scully’s story.

Who is making the new The X-Files?

Coogler wrote and directed the pilot and remains an executive producer. Jennifer Yale is showrunner and executive producer. Original X-Files creator Chris Carter is also an executive producer, alongside Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian of Proximity Media.

Coogler acknowledged the original series’ importance when Disney announced the order:

I’ve loved ‘The X-Files’ for a long time

The production comes from Onyx Collective and 20th Television in association with Proximity Media. Disney also says composer Ludwig Göransson contributed the score for the pilot. Deadwyler and Patel are listed as co-executive producers as well as the two leads.

What is still unconfirmed for Australia?

There is no Australian release date, streaming confirmation or trailer for the new series in the official announcement. The UK Disney+ commitment should not be treated as a local launch notice.

That distinction matters because television rights and launch windows can differ by territory. Australian viewers can expect a separate local announcement before a reliable date or viewing link can be given. For now, the concrete news is that Coogler’s project has secured a series order and its principal creative team is in place.
