Anna Torv beyond Dustfall: three performances to watch in Australia — Anna Torv’s new ABC crime drama is an invitation to revisit the range of television roles she has played. For Australian viewers, two contrasting series are currently easy to find alongside Dustfall: The Newsreader on ABC iview and Mindhunter on Netflix.

This is a viewing guide to three performances, not another announcement of the Dustfall cast or a review of episodes. Availability was checked against the Australian service pages on 12 October 2026 and can change with streaming rights.

Dustfall: a detective pulled into her own past

In the six-part Dustfall, Torv plays Detective Tig Pollard. An investigation into a sexual-assault case darkens when a key suspect is found dead, and Tig must confront buried events from her adolescence. The Gold Coast-filmed drama adapts Vikki Petraitis’s novel The Unbelieved, with Emma Freeman directing all six episodes.

It is the most direct choice if you want to see Torv in a new Australian lead role. Dustfall is on ABC TV and ABC iview. Its sexual-assault subject matter is worth considering before pressing play.

The Newsreader: pressure inside the newsroom

Torv’s Helen Norville occupies a very different workplace in The Newsreader. The drama begins in a 1986 commercial television newsroom, where the established presenter is paired with ambitious reporter Dale Jennings, played by Sam Reid. The first season places their relationship amid major news events and the competition to cover them.

ABC iview currently lists all three seasons and all episodes. If Dustfall makes you curious about Torv’s earlier Australian drama work, this is the free place to start. Helen’s professional authority and private uncertainty give Torv a different kind of tension to play than Tig’s criminal investigation.

Mindhunter: a darker psychological investigation

Mindhunter moves the setting to the late-1970s FBI, where investigators study the psychology of murder. Netflix Australia’s listing names Torv among the principal cast alongside Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany, and currently offers two seasons. The series is rated MA 15+ on the service.

Rather than another local crime story, this is the international counterpart in the three-show selection. The restrained investigative setting lets viewers see how Torv works within an ensemble, while Dustfall puts her character at the centre of the case.
