The Lowdown: watch season one free before season two arrives on Disney+ — Australian viewers have a useful catch-up route this week: all eight episodes of the first season are listed on SBS On Demand, while Disney+ has confirmed the second season will start locally on Thursday 15 October with two episodes.
That means you can meet Ethan Hawke’s Lee Raybon without starting a new subscription just to see where the story began. The services’ current listings confirm the split viewing options, but do not establish that either platform has exclusive rights to a season.
Where can Australians watch The Lowdown season one?
SBS On Demand lists the complete eight-episode first season, from Pilot to The Sensitive Kind. It is the free Australian option for viewers who want to catch up before the new run. SBS also provides a trailer and episode descriptions, so you can check the show’s tone before committing to the series.
Hawke plays Lee, a citizen journalist in Tulsa who calls himself a ‘truthstorian’. His determination to expose corruption keeps putting him in dangerous situations. Sterlin Harjo directs, and SBS lists Keith David, Betty Gilpin and Tommy Lee Jones in the cast. The series is a crime drama with strong adult themes, language and violence, so it is not an all-ages recommendation.
When does season two arrive on Disney+?
Disney+ Australia’s October guide names 15 October as the season-two premiere date and says the first two episodes will arrive together. It lists new episodes on 22 and 29 October, making this a weekly return rather than a full-season drop. Check the service closer to launch for the exact local release time and the remainder of the run.
The point of the SBS catch-up is context, not a promise that the first season will disappear. Neither service’s public listing gives an end date for SBS availability. If you already subscribe to Disney+, check its catalogue too; the confirmed free option is simply a convenient way to start.
Watch the official trailer
FX’s first-season trailer introduces Raybon and the series’ Tulsa setting without revealing the outcome of the season. It is a useful taste before you begin the eight episodes.
