Tonight | Better Homes and Gardens on Channel 7: Troy’s garden – Johanna visits Hunter Valley chef Troy Rhoades-Brown’s home garden, while the team shares family cooking, backyard planning and advice for a city dog. The episode airs Friday 16 October at 7pm on Channel 7 and 7two, with streaming on 7plus.

The six stories move from the ingredients a chef grows at home to ideas viewers can use in their own kitchens, gardens and living rooms. Charlie’s planning advice and Graham’s low-maintenance plant tip give the episode a practical thread alongside its recipes and animal story.

Johanna visits Troy’s garden

Johanna meets Troy Rhoades-Brown, the chef behind Hunter Valley fine-dining restaurant Muse. His home garden has vegetable beds, chooks and a greenhouse. She explores how the garden inspires his paddock-to-plate approach, then joins him to make a simple meal in his kitchen.

Family cooking and a sweet potato cake

Colin shares his family’s version of lasagne. The sauce combines pork, beef and lentils, with herby bechamel and layers of silver beet alongside the pasta. Clarissa takes sweet potato in a sweeter direction with a cake made using maple syrup and olive oil. A gluten-free version is possible, and she finishes it with almond butter caramel sauce.

Dr Harry helps Miffy navigate the city

Dr Harry meets Miffy, a nine-month-old cavalier unsettled by city sights and sounds. Birds and even pedestrian crossings can set off a barking frenzy on walks. Her owner Marie has tried to keep her calm, including with a specialised no-pull harness. Harry looks at how Miffy can become more comfortable in the busy streets around her home.

Where to begin in the backyard

Charlie tackles the uncertainty of starting with an empty backyard. He explains why it helps to understand the site’s conditions, decide what the space needs to do and work through a budget before choosing the details of a new garden. Graham, meanwhile, has a way to set up indoor plants to water themselves for people who struggle to find time for regular watering.
