Dennis Cometti: Centimetre Perfect honours Channel 7 broadcasting icon – Channel 7 will premiere the feature-length documentary Dennis Cometti: Centimetre Perfect during AFL Grand Final Week, celebrating one of Australia’s most distinctive and beloved sports broadcasters.
The documentary gives Channel 7 a major AFL Grand Final Week centrepiece beyond the matches themselves. For viewers who grew up with Cometti’s voice attached to some of the game’s biggest moments, it also turns the spotlight back on the broadcaster whose timing and wit became part of Australian football culture.
Dennis Cometti: Centimetre Perfect will premiere exclusively on Channel 7 and 7plus on Wednesday, 23 September at 8.30pm.
The new Seven Sport production has been more than 12 months in the making and traces Cometti’s life and career across more than four decades in broadcasting.
The documentary features contributions from family, colleagues and sporting identities, including Mark Cometti, Kieren Perkins, Susie O’Neill, Bruce McAvaney, Eddie McGuire, Sandy Roberts, Basil Zempilas, Nick Riewoldt, Chris Judd and Bob Murphy.
Cometti became known for a commentary style that blended precision, warmth and sharply timed humour. His most memorable lines were often delivered in the space between the action, giving matches an extra layer of personality without ever overwhelming the sport.
Seven says the documentary honours that legacy, while also looking at the work, relationships and craft behind a career that made Cometti a familiar voice across Australian homes.
Dennis Cometti: Centimetre Perfect is produced by Seven Sport for the Seven Network. The production is led by Seven’s Director of Sport Chris Jones, executive producer Gary O’Keeffe, supervising producer Cassie Treagus and producers Josh Sim, Jarvis Hunder and Josh Kay.
