InDesign brings First Nations design ideas to NITV – Screen Queensland has backed InDesign, a new factual series for NITV about First Nations knowledge, housing, architecture and design.
The series arrives as many Australians are thinking about better housing, sustainable buildings and stronger links to place. For TV Central readers, the key point is clear. InDesign puts First Nations knowledge at the centre of that conversation.
What the series explores
InDesign follows Biripi, Dunghutti and Kamilaroi woman Georgia Birks. Across the series, she meets Traditional Owners, architects, builders, artists and policymakers.
The program looks at how Indigenous design principles can shape smarter and more connected ways to build. It also explores how culture, Country and community can guide decisions about the places people live and work.
The series is produced by No Coincidence Media’s Rhea Stephenson, who is Nugi-Nunukal and Mununjali from south-east Queensland. Kaytetye woman Tanith Glynn-Maloney will direct.
Mitchell Stanley, Michaela Perske and Nha-Uyen Chau are executive producers.
Queensland production support
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said the agency was proud to support a strong First Nations creative team. She said the project brings an ambitious design-focused series to the screen.
Stephenson said InDesign will champion First Nations voices. She said Indigenous design, innovation and knowledge can offer practical ideas for the future. She also said the Queensland-based production would create new chances for local crew and talent.
InDesign is expected to inject almost $2 million into the Queensland economy. The production is also expected to employ 22 local cast, crew and creatives.
The series has received support through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund.
Production credits
NITV Head of Commissions Dena Curtis said the series fits NITV’s commitment to First Nations storytelling. Screen Australia’s Gillian Moody-Ardler also welcomed the chance to support a project led by First Nations creatives.
InDesign is a No Coincidence Media, LGI Media and Pursekey Productions production for NITV. Major production investment comes from Screen Australia in association with Screen Queensland.
The series is financed by Folklore Entertainment and Spectrum Entertainment. International sales are handled by LGI Media.
