A24’s TONY preview screening brings chefs and tastemakers to Event Cinemas George Street – A24 has hosted a Sydney preview screening for TONY at Event Cinemas George Street, with local chefs, creators and tastemakers attending ahead of the film’s Australian cinema release.
The event took place on Thursday, 13 August 2026. Guests included Clarke Gayford and MasterChef Australia 2026 contestants Kanika Gadyok, Annabel Lloyd, Olaolu Olorunnimbe, Lydia Kamperos, Emily Sue and Pat McGarry.
For Australian viewers, the screening puts TONY in front of a food and culture audience before the film opens locally. The story of Anthony Bourdain’s early kitchen years also gives the release a natural crossover with audiences who followed Bourdain through food television, travel series and his writing.
TONY follows a 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain as he travels to Provincetown and enters the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen. The experience sets off a summer that will shape the course of his life.
The film is directed by Matt Johnson and written by Johnson and Matthew Miller, Todd Bartels and Lou Howe. It is produced by Tim White, Trevor White, Matthew Miller and Johnson.
Cast and release details
Dominic Sessa stars as the young Bourdain, with Emilia Jones, Dagmara Dominczyk, Rich Sommers, Stavros Halkias, Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas also in the cast.
TONY runs for 106 minutes and is rated MA 15+. It opens in Australian and New Zealand cinemas on Thursday, 20 August 2026.
