New this week on Apple TV: Brothers and Knife Edge lead the lineup – Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson bring their real-life friendship to a new comedy, while the Michelin-star chase resumes and several established Apple TV series deliver important new episodes.
The first two episodes of Brothers and Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars season two are now streaming. They join fresh instalments of Slow Horses, the Australian thriller Last Seen, Dark Matter, Ted Lasso and Women in Blue.
For Australian viewers, the week balances two global premieres with a continuing run of locally connected drama. Patrick Brammall leads the Victorian-made Last Seen, while Joel Edgerton remains at the centre of Dark Matter‘s expanding alternate-world story.
Brothers begins with a family secret
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson play fictionalised versions of themselves in the eight-episode comedy Brothers. Their lifelong friendship is thrown into chaos when a decades-old secret suggests they might actually be related.
After the wedding of Woody’s daughter falls apart, he takes his family to Matthew’s Austin ranch. What begins as a chance to recover changes when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, accidentally reveals the possibility that the two friends could be brothers.
Woody starts pursuing the truth and turns life on the ranch upside down. Matthew, meanwhile, faces a separate identity crisis as he considers a run for Governor of Texas. The story uses the rumour to explore friendship, family, fame and the unstable line between public myth and private reality.
Holland Taylor plays Ma Mac. Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan and Oona Yaffe complete the principal ensemble. The first two episodes are now streaming, followed by one new episode each Wednesday through 4 November.
Knife Edge returns to the Michelin chase
The second season of Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars follows 16 restaurants at decisive points in their development. Their situations range from a family trying to place a tiny island on Michelin’s map to two chefs attempting to regain a star within 52 days of opening a new restaurant.
Other stories include two generations of a renowned culinary family pursuing recognition in different ways, a sandwich shop that becomes a fine-dining venue each night and a couple hoping to establish Filipino cuisine in one of America’s most competitive dining markets.
Food and travel presenter Jesse Burgess hosts the eight-part season. Gordon Ramsay and Studio Ramsay Global executive produce. The first two episodes arrive on Friday, 25 September, with weekly episodes continuing through 6 November.
Slow Horses faces Daddy Issues
Slow Horses season six continues with its second episode, Daddy Issues. The return of Frank Harkness and a suspicious series of murders put Jackson Lamb and the Slough House team on high alert.
The season finds the agents on the run after Diana Taverner draws them into a dangerous cycle of retaliation and revenge. Gary Oldman returns with Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Rosalind Eleazar, Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Jonathan Pryce and Hugo Weaving. Lenny Rush joins the ensemble.
Episode two is now streaming. New episodes arrive each Wednesday through 21 October.
Last Seen reaches The Truth
The Australian thriller Last Seen reaches episode four, The Truth. Pressure grows and relationships are tested as Ian leads police to Henry and Jenna’s door.
Patrick Brammall stars as former detective Ian Ridley, whose daughter Maggie disappeared 11 years earlier. Now working as a police dispatcher, Ian answers a distress call from a teenage girl he believes is Maggie and begins a search that threatens what remains of his family.
Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Jessica Wren, Zahra Newman and Chloe Jean Lourdes also star. Kris Mrksa adapted Ryan David Jahn’s novel The Dispatcher, while Christian Schwochow directs and executive produces. The series was set and filmed in Victoria.
Dark Matter explores another lost family
Dark Matter season two continues with episode five, Love and Be Loved, which follows a version of Jason who lost his family.
The second season places the Dessens in a world that initially appears safe. Their stability breaks down as Jason’s obsession with the Box grows and Daniela’s suspicion pushes her towards a reckoning. Amanda and Ryan attempt to find their way home, while Blair and Leighton pursue their own competing goals.
Joel Edgerton leads the cast with Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley and Amanda Brugel. Episode five premieres on Friday, 25 September, with weekly episodes through 30 October.
Ted Lasso and Women in Blue
In Ted Lasso season four episode eight, Follow the Anger, the Lady Greyhounds respond to a difficult setback while Roy and Keeley prepare for Richmond’s Wall of Legends.
The season follows Ted as he coaches a second-division women’s football team. Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift return alongside Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely. New episodes continue each Wednesday through 7 October.
Women in Blue, also known as Las Azules, reaches its penultimate episode, Gerardo. An act of desperation forces Gerardo’s hand and threatens Gabina’s friendship with Valentina.
Bárbara Mori, Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Téllez and Amorita Rasgado lead the season, which follows an investigation connected to Mexico’s 1968 student massacre. The finale arrives on Wednesday, 30 September.
