The Rings of Power season 3: where Middle-earth stands before the return — Sauron is moving closer to making the One Ring when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns to Prime Video Australia on 11 November 2026. Its story now spans several threatened realms, so this guide gathers the essential starting points before the new episodes.
TV Central has already covered the full trailer and the Australian episode schedule. This guide instead follows the separate fronts of the coming conflict. It uses Prime Video’s announced season-three premise and avoids guessing how the new season will resolve them.
The first four episodes arrive on 11 November, followed by two on 18 November and the final two on 25 November. Seasons one and two are available on Prime Video for a fuller catch-up.
Sauron: a war and a ring still to make
Season three begins five years after Eregion fell. Sauron’s armies have conquered much of the ground between the remaining strongholds. Yet his goal goes beyond military victory: in Mordor, he is working toward the One Ring, a weapon meant to secure power over the other ring-bearers.
That gives the new season its central question. Can the remaining peoples resist long enough to act together, or will the separate struggles leave Sauron free to finish his work?
The Elves: two realms holding out
Lindon and Rivendell remain among the Elven centres of resistance. Their Three Rings offer protection, but the new premise makes clear that safety inside those realms does not end the fight beyond them. Galadriel and the other Elven leaders face a wider war as Sauron’s influence spreads.
The Dwarves: Khazad-dûm under pressure
In Khazad-dûm, the Dwarves have sealed themselves within their mountain halls. That isolation may protect them from an immediate attack, but it also puts family loyalties and decisions about the wider conflict under strain. The mountain kingdom is therefore a separate front with consequences for the alliance Middle-earth needs.
Númenor and Rhûn: distant conflicts that matter
Númenor’s political factions are pushing the island kingdom toward civil conflict. Far to the east, Gandalf is in Rhûn, where he must answer another part of the growing darkness. Both stories may feel distant from Sauron’s armies, but Prime Video places them within the same approaching war.
The series is set in Tolkien’s Second Age, long before the adventures of Frodo and the Fellowship. The familiar One Ring belongs to the future of this story; the third season is about the conditions in which it could be forged.
