Being Heumann official trailer previews Apple TV’s Judy Heumann drama – Apple TV has released the official trailer for Being Heumann, a film about disability-rights activist Judy Heumann and the 1977 occupation of a San Francisco federal building. Ruth Madeley plays Heumann in the drama, which premieres in Australia on Friday, 13 November 2026.
For Australian viewers, the film brings a pivotal campaign for equal rights to a major streaming release. TV Central covered the earlier teaser in September; this full trailer now arrives after the film’s festival premieres. Writer-director Siân Heder places Heumann and the coalition of young protesters at the centre of the story.
The new trailer follows the film’s opening-night premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and a gala presentation at the BFI London Film Festival. Heder, who won an Academy Award for CODA, writes, directs and produces the feature.

The story behind the film
In 1977, Heumann and more than a hundred other young people take over the San Francisco Federal building after their calls for action go unanswered. What begins as a spontaneous act grows into the longest occupation of a federal building in American history, as the protesters refuse to leave until an official played by Mark Ruffalo responds.
The film follows the group’s struggle to organise, hold its ground and pursue change while its members navigate different views on the path ahead. Its focus is not only the occupation itself, but the people who turned a collective demand into a sustained campaign.
Ruth Madeley leads the cast as Judy Heumann. Alongside Ruffalo, the ensemble includes Dylan O’Brien, Madeline Delp, Roberta Colindrez, Jon Beavers, Antwan Tolliver, Ray Fisher, Andrew Pilkington, Michael Patrick Thornton, Russell Harvard and Daniel Durant.
Charlie Rush-Reese, Rio Finnegan, D’Arcee Charington Neal, Will Brill, Rob Delaney, Matthew August Jeffers, Siena Rafter and Rein Barcel also appear. Together, the large cast reflects the collective action at the heart of the film, rather than framing the campaign as the work of a single person.
Siân Heder and the creative team
Heder co-wrote the screenplay with Rebekah Taussig. David Permut produces for Permut Presentations alongside John Beach, Kevin Cleary and Kevin Walsh for the Walsh Company. Executive producers are Jim LeBrecht, Diana Pokorny, Ann Molin and Kristen Joiner. Joiner co-wrote Heumann’s memoir, Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist.
Being Heumann premieres on Apple TV in Australia on Friday, 13 November. The official trailer is available above.
