Being Heumann trailer reveals Apple TV film from CODA director Sian Heder – Apple Original Films has released the teaser trailer and key art for Being Heumann, the new feature film from Academy Award-winning CODA filmmaker Sian Heder.
The film gives Apple TV another major drama built around a real civil rights story. It also reunites the streamer with Heder after CODA became a landmark Best Picture winner.
Being Heumann follows Judy Heumann, widely known as the mother of the disability rights movement. The story centres on young adults who find their voice while fighting discrimination.
The teaser has arrived ahead of the film’s Toronto International Film Festival premiere. Being Heumann is set to open the festival on Thursday, 10 September.
A Fight That Changed Lives
The film is set in 1977 and stars Ruth Madeley as Judy Heumann. After officials refuse to take her calls, Judy joins a coalition of people demanding change.
At first, their protest appears small. However, it soon becomes the longest occupation of a federal building in American history.
Hundreds of people seize government offices and refuse to leave. Their goal is simple: action on rights that had been promised but not delivered.
Mark Ruffalo also stars in the film. He plays a bureaucrat standing in the group’s way as the protest forces national attention.
Apple describes Being Heumann as revolutionary, irreverent and deeply human. The film explores rebellion, disability rights and the personal cost of fighting discrimination.
Being Heumann premieres in select theatres on Friday, 6 November. It then premieres on Apple TV on Friday, 13 November.
