NRL on Channel 9 round 8 fixture – Only the best will do this week when NRL on Nine’s ANZAC Day double leads four games of footy for free, from tonight at 7.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
Undefeated at top of the table, the Bulldogs are barking loudest as they travel to Brisbane to take on the Broncos to lead the first of four blockbuster games for free, tonight on Thursday Night Footy.
Broncos superstar Reece Walsh will join the NRL on Nine panel at halftime. While on the eve of their first ever Premiership game in 1935, we celebrate 90 years of the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs club with a feature on their history with legends Terry Lamb, Daryl Halligan, Graeme Hughes and Mark O’Meley.
Tradition runs deeper when the Roosters and Dragons meet in their classic ANZAC Day showdown at Allianz Stadium from 3.00pm. NRL on Nine will celebrate the occasion with the Light Horse Brigade, The Ode and a stirring rendition of The Last Post. Roosters coach Trent Robinson and Sam Walker join the panel live.
Making it an ANZAC Day double at 7.30pm, two giants of the NRL collide when the Storm and Rabbitohs lay their biggest stars out at night in Melbourne.
Supercoach Wayne Bennett has made his move with Latrell Mitchell returning to fullback and his usual No.1 jersey. While his opposite number, Ryan Papenhuyzen will be aiming to pile on the points in combination with Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster, as coach Craig Bellamy demands excellence after a shock last start loss to the Dolphins.
After hogging the headlines Lachlan Galvin will make his highly publicised NRL return on Sunday Arvo Footy, live from Leichhardt Oval, when the Wests Tigers take on the Sharks from 3.00pm AEST. Benji Marshall joins the panel before kick off and we feature the obstacles overcome by Sharks try scoring freak Ronaldo Mulitalo.
Gus Gould’s ANZAC Day preview
NRL on Nine expert commentator, Phil Gould said:
“ANZAC Day is the most important day on Australia’s national calendar. A day for reflection, appreciation and thanks, to those who sacrificed so much to give us the country and freedoms we enjoy today. To have rugby league play a part in this important day of remembrance is always such an honour. It’s my favourite Rugby League day of the year.
“The Dragons have been very consistent all year. They are also showing real signs of improvement. They are a big, powerful football team. The Roosters have been anything but consistent, and have made some big changes as they search for winning form. These games are always fiercely contested. The two veteran fullbacks, Roosters champion James Tedesco and Dragons captain Clint Gutherson, could be the difference between winning and losing for both sides.
“In Storm v Rabbitohs the supercoaches Craig Bellamy and Wayne Bennett are back at it. Both teams will place a huge premium on victory in this clash after last start losses. Evidence of this fact is Bennett finally selecting Latrell Mitchell to play fullback – going ‘all-in’ on his enigmatic superstar. The Storm has been super hot and super cold, all in the same game, several times this season. Bellamy won’t tolerate such inconsistency much longer. I’m predicting a big bounce back with a supreme 80 minute performance from the Storm.”
