Kane Cornes looks at 49ers’ returning stars ahead of Rams clash – Kane Cornes has highlighted the extraordinary returns of George Kittle and Nick Bosa as the San Francisco 49ers prepare to meet the Los Angeles Rams at the MCG.
Speaking with Seven’s Xander McGuire, Cornes pointed to Kittle’s recovery from an Achilles injury and Bosa’s return from an ACL injury as examples of the demands – and advances – of elite American football.
“These are the most finely tuned athletes in the world – fast, explosive, tough,” Cornes said. “The thing that interests me about someone like Kittle off that Achilles injury is the short, sharp bursts.”
Cornes said the workload for Kittle will be a very different challenge to the games Australians follow closely, particularly the need to block, run downfield and cool down while remaining ready for his next involvement.
The Seven analyst also marvelled at Rams quarterback Matt Stafford’s durability heading into his 18th season, citing the punishment he has absorbed while continuing to perform at the highest level.
The focus on Kittle, Bosa and Stafford underlines the star power on show as the NFL brings a major divisional rivalry to Melbourne, with the MCG clash placing the league’s elite athletes in front of an Australian audience.
