Lani Pallister wins Australia’s first Glasgow 2026 swimming gold – Lani Pallister has won Australia’s first swimming gold medal of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking out the women’s 400m freestyle on Seven’s coverage.
Pallister’s win continued a family Commonwealth Games story, with Seven commentator Alister Nicholson noting that her mother won bronze in 1990 before Pallister claimed gold in 2026.
For Seven and 7plus Sport, the result gave the opening night of swimming a major Australian moment. It also set the tone for a strong Dolphins campaign in Glasgow, with Jenna Forrester adding bronze in the same race.
Australia opens its gold account
Giaan Rooney described the final lap as Pallister and New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather tightened up, with Pallister pushing through the closing metres.
Nicholson called the family legacy “in safe hands” as Pallister reached the wall for gold. He also noted that Forrester was on track for bronze, giving Australia two medals in the event.
Meanwhile, Forrester’s bronze gave Australia another early podium result. It also showed the depth of the Dolphins team on the first night of competition.
Ariarne Titmus said any swim under four minutes was an exceptional world-class performance, and described Pallister’s first Commonwealth Games gold as a major achievement.
